This, so much this. I also find it rather coincidental that fb cam out with threads soon after the twitter implosion. Opportunistic feasting on a dead carcass perhaps?
Way too much logic with this approach for a game publisher/company to follow. Gotta milk every IP for all its worth, seperatley, to get the biggest cash cow's out of the nothing burgers served.
I think there's about 3 in my city. Always seems to have people in it playing something, and event nights look more packed when I go past. But I don't really have the friend group for that kinda thing though
Fatima al-Shawarbi, who is from Al-Ahsa province and believed to be under 30, reported to have used her anonymous Twitter account to highlight the plight of the Howeitat – a tribe whose members have been forcibly displaced for the Neom megaproject – women’s rights, and calling for a constitutional monarchy.
Dude they see the light, the oil industry isn't going to be a crutch the Saudi's can use forever, and they know. What with the mega spending sprees for property abroad and such, it's the usual "fuck the people, how can I escape with my cash?"
I am theoretically switching over from Reddit to Lemmy. Finding myself spending more time on Lemmy than on Reddit. Maybe it's because I am limited to using the desktop and can't aimlessly browse Reddit on my iPhone. Of late, the only subreddits I cared for were on sports and their matchday threads and r/watches. I found myself...
Welcome! Doing the switch too. There was only really one sub I looked at often, that being r/superstonk (not trying to 'shill', just staying a fact). Other than that, kbin is sooo much nicer, even in its current infant state
Twitter is falling apart. Reddit is falling apart. Facebook fell apart ages ago. Meta is a trashfire. Instagram is baloney. Google can't even search for anything you want anymore.
@tveastman I find Wikipedia very useful for getting quick summaries of niche/obscure mathematical concepts/theories, but beside that, not much else. I donated a little a while back, don't remember the nagging like others are saying, however I wouldn't be surprised. Seems all companies, for profit or not, have some malicious (at least to the customer) thread to them.
Scores are settled between cats once the humans are asleep. Had five at one point in time, always felt like walking into a room of lords late at night. Feuding over each other, and their 'rank' in the overall hierarchy, amongst themselves. Fascinating to watch, albeit tense.

Of course the US government are going after open-source licensing. God damn bunch of public/private revolving door leeches. Any good thing in this world and their immediate reaction is " alright, but how can I extort the thing for all it's got".
What I've been doing during switching, so far so good with kbin. A bit under polished, but otherwise a great solution, esp with being both a Twitter+reddit alt. Looking forward to seeing it's further development

At Reddit I can save a thread, at Mastodon I can bookmark a post or comment. How do I save a Kbin (or other) 'article', comment, etc?
Yes, I know browser bookmarks exist. But there must be some native functionality that I keep just not noticing - right?
Are there any Reddit refugees spending more time on Lemmy than Reddit?
