Including comments on the code with expressions like “Crank the silly thing arround”, “see if he’s lying”, “off to see the wizard” and a sub-routine called “burnbaby”. More here: sciencealert.com/the-code-that-took-astronauts-to…

She’s definitely a legend.

That was the same in Brazil, where I live. This scared the beejesus out of Microsoft, so they created special, cheaper version for developing countries to counter it.

NASA’s Parker Solar Probe Completes 16th Close Approach to the Sun (blogs.nasa.gov)

NASA’s Parker Solar Probe accomplished a milestone on June 27, 2023 – its 16th orbit of the Sun. This included a close approach to the Sun (known as perihelion) on June 22, 2023, where the spacecraft came within 5.3 million miles of the solar surface while moving at 364,610 miles per hour. The spacecraft emerged from the...

It does. It has a special shield that that protects the equipment, leaving only a few instruments exposed. The solar panels are movable, they flip back to hide behind the shield on close approach and extend when away from the Sun, it even uses a water cooling system to transfer heat away from more sensitive areas. This page on NASA’s website shows how it works, including an animation of the solar panels retracting (pay no mind to the silly music in the video).

SearxNG for search: docs.searxng.org

You can try it using a public instance if you like, but since installing it is easy and painless, just go for it.

Based on my experience (nearing 30 years of system administration), one thing led to the others. They lost the capacity to handle lots of simultaneous requests when Google cut them off, so they pushed the change to rate limit at API level, but since they don’t seem to have QA or testing anymore, this led to the front-end hitting the limit, but the front-end didn’t have an error handler for this situation, so it just kept trying.

Tl;Dr, Twitter 2.0 is a shit show.

It’s actually bellow amateur hour. The best metaphor I can make for how things are working there right now is a bi-polar Chihuahua on crack having an epileptic seizures.

Well, sorry for saying this folks, but I regret having deleted my Reddit account…

… before editing all my comments to point to Lemmy.

Just look at their claims of "8K gaming" for the 3090, the GTX 970 debacle that resulted in a class-action lawsuit (which they lost), a lawsuit over misleading financial reports...

Yeah, I'd say it's pretty common.

Not that AMD, Intel, Apple or any other corporation are any better. They all lie in order to squeeze a few more bucks from us.

Which obscure consoles have you played on?

When I was a kid my family had a TI-99/4A. The 99 series was Texas Instruments’ only real foray into the PC and video game market, and it failed to be competitive with Commodore, Atari, and Amiga. Most games were booted from cartridges. My favorites were Hunt the Wumpus, a sort of early survival-horror with a turn-based grid...

Depend on what you consider obscure. For Japanese, European and South Americans, the MSX computer was common knowledge, in the US it's, AFAIK, almost unknown. I played a lot of games on it when I was a kid.

Not bad. Better than Google alone, for sure.

Seems 0.18 is up… and…

OH NO ! The interface changed ! Bring it back ! Bring it back… /s

Just kidding… It’s looking good, so it’s time to explore a little and find all the new stuff.

Nice work @Rudd, thanks for all the hard work.

But if you wanted to justify wiping your $700 gaming handheld because you'd rather never see a Microsoft Teams notification again

That's reason enough. I won't even try to list the other reasons why windows should be listed as malware, because they're too many at this point, so wiping any device that comes with it and installing something sane is, IMHO, a civic duty.

Yah, I know, I'm preaching to the choir...

It ended up as /u/Spez's roadmap for the future of Reddit.

Anarch157a,
@Anarch157a@lemmy.world avatar

Yup. I'm Anarch157a everywhere (except Mastodon, for reasons), Steam, Lemmy, Discord, etc. Having my old - now deleted - Reddit account as a bot could spill over my identity in other services.

Anarch157a,

Brave Search would be better, they have a dedicated section on the results page for discussions.

Anarch157a,
@Anarch157a@lemmy.world avatar

By that standard, so is DuckDuckGo, Qwant or Ecosia. Until we have a good federated search service, we'll have to deal with them and pray they don't enshittify like Google.

Anarch157a,

Red Flag: Username composed of "Adjective + Substantive + Digits". This is a clear sign of a bot generated account. If in doubt, check how old the account is, even a company that is going to shit like Reddit wouldn't let a new employee with a new account manage a giveaway.

Does this metric include all federated instances, including Kbin, or is this just lemmyy.world ?

It's a known tactic of American far right to blame high fuel prices on incumbent Democrat presidents while excusing Republicans with the "market forces" argument.

They know that the price of gas in US is beyond the president's control, but they still try to pin it on Democrats anyway.

If Wagner takes Moscow, it's game over for Putler, His only option would be to split the country with him as the leader of the break away region.

Now, the million dollar question, what happens with the nukes? The long range balistic missiles would probably fall into Prigozhin's hands, but what happens with the ones in Belarus? Which side will Lukashenko support? Will he let Putin use this tactical weapons against Wagner troops or hand them over to Prigozhin?

So many unknowns right now.
