Being in the office I get to eavesdrop on obnoxious conversations. Like some boomer bragging to his colleague that he saved a couple hundred bucks buying his daughter a Lenovo instead of the MacBook she asked for.
He went on and on about how his daughter is ungrateful and only cares about the latest trends.
Christ. Setting aside the misogyny-tinged paternalism, just spend the extra money and get her what she asked for. It’s a computer for college. It’s not like she demanded a new BMW.
@petes_bread_eqn_xls agreed. My partner was just getting started with software development and I got her a Mac laptop after all the struggles she had using a windows
It’s the best middle ground: polished generally and exposes you to enough stuff that Linux is a smaller jump
@petes_bread_eqn_xls I think you can buy movies and shows within roku itself (as opposed to Amazon, etc). That might be easier as I imagine it’s a better UX. So if she searches “Show” it just finds it instead of “ok make sure you go into Amazon first then search”
@jenbanim I hope this year it stays as a PSA for only pockets of the country. Last year was rough in the Midwest. luckily I had several air purifiers from my time in Seattle. At the time I thought it was a waste to keep them around
@archliberal yeah I’m getting better engaging less. But got pulled in when someone earnestly said that billions were lost from wage theft and that fare evasion was the people taking back what’s owed to them.
I think it’s likely best for me to just get off threads but the shitposting has been fun
