Last time, I used: “Anybody need anything while I’m out?” and that went over well. May not make it through this surgery on Friday, so I turn to Lemmy for top-notch suggestions for my potential last words!
Drug users are everyone, alcohol, tobacco, coffee, some are legal, some are still detectable months after use, would you care that your cab driver got drunk last months ? I wouldn’t care.
WTF, we are making videos from text posts now ? It feels so weird… Instead of reading a post in 10s, I get to wait 35s for the video to unfold the text discussion, and youtube gets to puts ads on top of it, what a time to be alive…
Personally, I’d prefer waiting 15s to start the video than watching 15s of ad before atching the video, ads have been proven to have an effect on your brain that’s why they keep showing them to you. It’s not about the delay in video watching, it’s about the ad itself.
It’s weird, for me the cat seen from behind looks like a kitten, while the reflections looks older.
I first thought that it was on purpose, the cat still feeling like a child (like we all do), seeing his old body in the mirror and not recognising himself. It felt like a statement about our minds.
You are totally right, industry is the big polluter, but I think it’s important to also realize: what we consume drives industry to produce polluting goods, the only reason they pollute is to produce stuff to sell us, if we want them to stop polluting, “part” of the solution is to stop buying their stuff.
Although I agree with what everyone is saying “that it make sense to compensate workers for the commute in time and money”, I’d like to nuance a little, because I think it is a bit more complicated from a moral standpoint: Imagine employer were paying for your commute and you were on the clock during it, what happen when you move to another appartment/house further from work ? Should the employer continue to pay and clock your longer commute ? It seems weird that my decision to move to another part of the city would affect my employer. The consequence would be that employer will mandate that you cannot move without their appoval or that their cost for your commute is fixed in the contract and need to be renegociable. In the end what it boils down to is not that commute should be paid for and part of the work day. What people want is better salaries and smaller hours. Then the commute doesn’t matter anymore, and stays at the expense of the worker who can therefore move wherever they want.
“I just like meat” is a weird point to make I feel. From a moral standpoint, if you feel it is wrong, it shouldn’t matter wether or not you like the meat (I too remember meat fondly from when I was still eating it). I’ll twist your word into an extreme to illustrate my point, imagine reading this:
“I agree that raping children should be stopped, but I just like children, I don’t think that every one should stop, we should just reduce how much we do it”.
It probably sound like it’s completely ridiculous, but for someone that believe that it is morally wrong to kill and eat animals, this is kinda how you sound.
I’m ok with people not being morally aligned with me, but when they are not consistent in their viewpoint, I can’t help but think they are just rationalising their behavior to ease their mind.
I think you are right that optimising engineering cost is the goal of these practices, but I believe it is a bad thing.
Nowadays we have the most powerful hardware we ever had, yet everything is slow. Sure we reduce dev cost, but the end user is paying the price difference with its time in my opinion.
In the end the only people that benefit from this are the owners of the product, making more money selling unoptimised software, devs maybe get a bit more money, but probably not that much.
Don’t forget the deck emulates a lot of other console, and therefore, the number of game you can play should also include those, I emulate the switch on my deck and it works like a charm.
