BorisBoreUs,

They’d only have all account info if the passwords were also the same and you didn’t avail yourself of 2fa/mfa. It’s better to have different strong passwords/long passphrases and use mfa. Separate email accounts become their own vectors for account hacking, not to mention that any personal security scheme you have that becomes too complicated with multiple accounts to juggle is it’s own security problem.

BorisBoreUs, (edited )

Sure. It can be “less” secure from a procedural perspective because it increases the complexity of the user accessing their info. The more difficult/complicated it is for the user, the more likely of user mistakes exposing their accounts in one way or another. Obviously there are password apps that allow for seamless login (some of those can also be problematic), which alleviates the complexity, but then you have multiple email accounts to manage on some level for the various services and websites you use.

End of day, if it works, it works, but it’s important to pay attention to your user experience while also taking in to account the various tools (strong pass, mfa, etc) when setting yourself up. If you get annoyed that you have too many emails to manage, you might be more likely to not log out, or not use mfa, etc.

edit wasn’t trying to say it was WAY more insecure to use separate emails, just that it probably wasn’t necessary if you have different pass and use mfa. Sometimes ‘more, better’ isn’t ‘more-better’.

Alpha Release [v0.3.0]: Modlogs, mod reports, and more customizations! (github.com)

Hey everyone, its been a while but it’s finally time for another Thunder release. As always, there have been many improvements, additions, changes and fixes in this release which should make for a even better Thunder experience. If you have any suggestions or feedback, feel free to discuss it in the Thunder community or on...

BorisBoreUs,

Howdy. Great App!

I appreciate that Thunder has a “Tablet Mode” so i can run two stacks of tiles to navigate Lemmy. My daily driver is a zFold 4 and because of the aspect ratio when open, single tile feeds aren’t as good.

Unfortunately, as of the new update, the thumbnail views of the pictures associated with the posts are often squeezed or stretched. The tile isn’t respecting the picture’s ratio when building the tile. It’s certainly a QoL thing, but it would be cool if it was corrected.

Thank you for all your hard work. The app is really solid.

BorisBoreUs,

… Is technology the wrong channel for cache-clear messages, are we not reminding to clear cache anymore, or is my tone being misinterpreted…? Truely interested

BorisBoreUs,

Fair enough. It was meant to be more, "hey everyone, I’m an idiot and thought my app was misbehaving then remembered that i needed to clear the cache. After deleting 3 and a half gigs it’s working very well again. The bit about regularly scheduled programming was probably more projection than anything else. :) Sorry if i came off sounding like a prick, if you heard me say it out loud, it would have been dripping with self depreciation. edit for spelling

BorisBoreUs,

You’re one of the smart ones then. This message is for the rest of us

BorisBoreUs,

Huh, when i started in on Lemmy it seemed that emptying overgrown caches was the first step in troubleshooting app woes. Have they gotten to a place where this isn’t the case? Was i misinformed? Thunder seems to be more snappy now that i cleared it.

BorisBoreUs,

Ahhh. That is good to know. Well, my most down-voted post will at least have taught me something. Thank you for taking the time to respond.

BorisBoreUs,

Hey! The acoustics are just better in here…

BorisBoreUs,

In the future, when this is wildly successful, please develop a plugin for my smart watch so i don’t have too keep my phone in my pocket. /stuffthatsnotrelevantnow

BorisBoreUs,

Cheers. You turned me on to Leanpub too. Looking forward to diving in

BorisBoreUs,

Daily Driver - Vivaldi with any applicable EFF plugins and custom settings aimed at security and privacy.

2nd Daily Driver (usually on a separate screen) - Firefox configured with any applicable EFF plugins and settings put at the most restrictive and forgetful to facilitate privacy and security.

Mobile - Literally the same as above to the extent i have the ability to ^^

BorisBoreUs,

Tracking mostly. If i need to visit a site that i want to know the absolute minimum about me or my accounts, i use Firefox. Vivaldi is secured well, but I’m logged in to various accounts for convenience there. I have a 3 monitor set up so it’s easy to just have it open on a separate screen.

BorisBoreUs,

Good advice, but for how i have my workflow set up, it makes more sense for me to have it set on full amnesia. Vivaldi is what i use if i need persistence.

BorisBoreUs,

That’s pretty neat… I’ll look in to it. Than you for the info.

BorisBoreUs,

How do you mean?

BorisBoreUs,

I don’t know… Sounds like I’d have to trust another extension to do the user agent stuff in the background… I’m sure that’s a solid solution for a lot of use cases, but i might just keep my method for now.

Smartphone Keyboard Information Bonanza: What's available and what's best for your needs

Howdy. I wanted a central place for information surrounding smartphone keyboards since there have been some changes recently to a few of them. I hope to keep this post afloat over the long term so we can share experiences, information, news, etc to find the perfect smartphone keyboard for ourselves and help others do the same....

BorisBoreUs, (edited )

My daily driver is a zFold 4. The device itself has as much to do with a keyboard being useful as anything else. I put up with Swype not handling a foldable well because of it’s other features. I can say that Samsung’s native keyboard (obviously) handles being used between two different screens well, but if Swype began magically working again, i’d drop the native keyboard immediately.

  • Phone - Samsung zFold 4
  • Primary-use Keyboard - Samsung Keyboard
  • Preferred Input Style - Swipe, Gesture
  • Preferred number of hands involved in typing - One (mostly have to use two with Samsung keyboard)
BorisBoreUs,

You unbelievable hero. Instead of sleeping, Ive been configuring HeliBoard. Its all I’ve ever wanted (all most) and was completely off my radar. Thank you very much!

Simple Plasma Gruvbox theme with Tunic wallpaper [KDE Plasma] (sh.itjust.works)

The wallpaper is just a cropped image from the scans of the games manual found here, note these are spoilers!, Tunic is an absolutely lovely game I have been playing on my Switch and I highly recommend it to people who really enjoy the difficulty of older Nintendo games but want a more polished experience. The way the game...

BorisBoreUs,

Hi. Great looking UI! …just wanted to pop by and remind any who will listen that GRUVBOX IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST cheers.

BorisBoreUs,

There are bootstraps you haven’t appropriately pulled up if you live at home.

The more legitimate reason is that there’s a school of thought that you can’t become a fully-fledged, independent adult without putting some distance between youself and the folks that raised you. There’s a difference between someone who never left home and is content to just stay in the status quo, vs an adult who maybe went to off to college or was away from home for some period of time while working that has had to come back due to challenging circumstances and doesn’t plan to stay longer than they need to. Obviously, the stereotype is of the former and not the latter.
