BurnSquirrel,

I FELL TO MY KNEES IN THE BASS PRO SHOP PARKING LOT!

BurnSquirrel, (edited )

Yea, we liberals think the same thing about you buddy

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horseshoe_theory

Populists, who’s reactionary attention spans are harnessed by TV Media (right) or Social media (left) to drive up some corporations stock price

BurnSquirrel,

Reddit is large enough that it’s user base is very diverse and niche hobbies can still get a substantial following. From what I can tell, us lemmings are all kinda the same nerdy person who’s into Linux and gaming with not enough of us to really make communities for divergent interests.

When I first came in a few people were trying to get /c/bjj going but it just kind of fell off because the middle of a venn diagram of people who are nerdy enough to be here and also into grappling is like me and 6 other people

Still, I peek in here now and again because the shitposts tend to be better.

BurnSquirrel,

Surely the oil and energy companies have their own investments into renewables. I can’t imagine why Rs would die on this hill except for their little culture war.

It's called "social jet lag". Yes I know about sleep hygiene. (lemmy.world)

It’s absolutely true that a lot of modern-day problems with being tired come from bad sleep habits. What I’m talking about is a real phenomenon that isn’t being in front of a screen too close to bedtime. If anyone wants to know more, here’s a 3-minute video from AsapSCIENCE about what research shows.

BurnSquirrel,

I think it’s more flexible than you think. In my single 20s I was a night owl because I stayed up late playing video games and got satisfaction out of that. Now in my 40s I’m up at 5am because that’s when my family is still asleep and no one needs me for anything, and that’s a nice if not rare feeling.

I disagree in that I think the movie is hilarious, but I dunno man, there are way too many people in forums like this declaring “Idiocracy was a documentary” so they can feel smart for a moment.

If you watch interviews of Mike Judge talking about it, none of that is the direction he wanted the message of the movie to go. “Lead, follow, or get out of the way” is the theme he wanted. Putting a common man in a situation where they are in a position to do something is what it’s supposed to be about.

BurnSquirrel,

eh, It would look like more of a shakedown if it was just the US doing it, but tiktok is getting banned all over the place, particularly for government devices.

BurnSquirrel,

SRE is what all the cool kids are saying these days

BurnSquirrel,

but a buffalo has the spines crossing the shoulder and onto the neck, the spinasaurus spines are all on the back

BurnSquirrel,

From what I noticed working tech, there is a pressure to be on the cutting edge at all costs and a lot of stuff gets over hyped to sell things to MBAs. I’ve seen a few disruptive technologies come in. They are almost never wrong about what the thing is or will be, but they are almost always wrong about the timeline it comes into being in a really mature way.

BurnSquirrel,

I liked the first one alright but I remember it being a bit easy, and putting it down for rim world, a much more challenging game in the same vein. Guess I’ll wait and see on this one.

BurnSquirrel,

I was typing up a reply and realized this said most of what I was saying. The only thing I’d add is that support matters, popularity matters. Supported or popular HW platforms are less likely to have small random niggles than an off the shelf dell laptop. System 76 or tuxedo lines are ideal supported platforms. Think pads area super popular.

PopOS or Mint are as easy to use as ubuntu, but without being chained to snaps, which everyone is moving towards flatpaks except canonical

BurnSquirrel,

amazing to me that open source games usually sputter out quickly, yet communities will dissemble, reassemble and polish and finish games from established IPs

BurnSquirrel,

I think it’s more of a gaben hate thing, since the epic store can’t really make a dent to steams marketshare, even when they straight up give away games.

BurnSquirrel,

I’m old enough to remember when discovery showed space stuff like, all the time. It was great!

It really changed in the 90s when congress pulled public funding for educational TV

BurnSquirrel,

“Retarded” used to be the new sensitive word for what they called a “Moron”. He’s not a moron he’s just “Retarded (slowed)”. Now retard is one of the the quickest, cutting insults you can dish out. The word shifted when it got applied to people with metal disabilities.

I guess what I’m saying is, even if we don’t called unskilled labor “unskilled labor”, lets say we call it “duck jobs” eventually the neutral term “duck jobs” will shift when we apply it to shitty jobs that don’t pay well and anyone can do. I used to work a few duck jobs out of school, like loading trucks, but eventually I got back to college and got an internship that lead to a goose job. Now I hope to never do a duck job again.

BurnSquirrel,

So, I’m not sure if skyrim is right for this because it’s had a certain modding community built up, and for whatever reason, corporate execs seem to love burning down organic communities with no idea of the damage they’re doing.

However, if a game was built from day 1 to have support for paid mods, I’d probably consider making assets for mods as a side gig, as would a lot of people who work in tech or are budding game developers, because its far less of a commitment than making a full game.

The closest things that do this currently are roblox, which does everything in it’s power to prevent you from withdrawing money from it, and second life, which is near dead and only still going because of furies and perverts.

If a true platform-esque game, like Skyrim or Arma, were to come along with a shop that would let you do things like build a dungeon and charge a dollar for it, that would suddenly look attractive to a lot of people to get involved.

BurnSquirrel,

Why isn’t it? We all USED to crap in our diapers, but times change.

Pretty much everyone you know who was alive in the 90s said or did some horrible shit to or about lgbt people

BurnSquirrel,

I think a lot of the comments here mischaracterize chik fil a as another shitty burger joint in a way that would be confusing to people that never seen one. They make really good chicken sandwiches because chicken sandwiches is almost the only thing they make. While most fast food joints might have 1-3 people running it during non-peak hours, chic fil a constantly has a small army in there. I don’t even know how so many people stay busy but that crazy looking line pictured will be cleared out in under 10 minutes.

BurnSquirrel,

They did but no longer do. The owners may still personally, but if you were to dig into the owners of every company you’d probably come to the conclusion that there is no ethical consumption under capitolism.

BurnSquirrel,

There is definitely such a thing as jobs that take lots of book learning and tests to get, and jobs anyone can get by applying for them. This semantic fight of “No such thing as unskilled labor” is just going to make people call it something new and politically correct, but it won’t change reality.
