Here’s the real problem. Guns are basically dangerous tools, and should be treated as such. Instead, they have a cult of personality. I’ve got no problem with people owning knives and hammers, but if some dude has a bunch of pro-knife, and pro-hammer stickers on his car, joins the knife and hammer Association of America, regularly shows up to angrily protest restrictions on where you can carry knives and hammers, walks around with a concealed knife and hammer at the mall because a box or nail could be around any corner… I might start to think that nut job should not be allowed to have a knife or a hammer.
I don’t want a smart (insert household device here) I want a dumb device that simply reports it’s status to and accepts commands from a computer. Put all the smart shit in one thing and control multiple devices from a single interface.
There is no reason why my oven or laundry machine needs enough computing power to land a man on the moon.

1: Don’t ignore it. It won’t go away, and there is usually an infection that can spread to your jaw or other teeth. It needs to be taken care of by a professional ASAP.
2: You can take an NSAID with a Non-NSAID pain reliever, and it is just about the only thing that can relieve this pain. Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen were my only relief while waiting for my dental appointment.

Most phones today contain a powerful array of sensors, and almost all of them are locked from easy access by the user. Physics Toolbox has functions that allow you to get the raw data from almost every sensor in your phone. It’s the only “tool” app that I can honestly say I’ve used as a tool. It has a sound intensity functions which I have used to determine if hearing protections is needed, and I’ve used that feature to diag a bad mic pickup due to an ambient white noise machine. It can give you the signal loss for a WiFi connection, very handy for troubleshooitng wireless access points.
Other features, magnetic field detection, tone generator, color matcher, g-force and rotation output, raw GPS view and more. All of these are available on the free version, but I actually use this app so much that I sent the 2 or 5 bucks to the dev mainly just to support them. The paid version also lets you export the sensor logs to a .csv file so you can view that data on a computer.
It really turns your phone from a glorified Lemmy portal into the cool future tool it was meant to be.
Turkey is cheap, and can be cooked a variety of ways. It’s an amazing food source. Last year I brined a turkey breast for Thanksgiving, this year I’m doing a lemon-herb butter rub.
Before cooking my own turkey, it was just whatever my grandparents or inlaws made for thanksgiving, and it was usually dry and bland. You can do better and you should do better. That bird died for you, and you have a duty to make it delicious.
Empty rental properties should be taxed at their rental rates, regardless of if there is a tenant in them or not. Wanna rent out slums for 1700 a month, well, you aren’t going to pay taxes on that property like the 90k shithole that it is.
To go a little further, if you’re listing a house, you should pay taxes on it monthly based on the list price. Seen way too many shithole with a fresh coat of paint hiked 150k above their actual value.

Yep. My last landlord did this. Kept half of our deposit. Said that our rabbits damaged the carpet, and that we didn’t clean it.
Well that didn’t sit well with me, since my rabbits can’t ingest synthetic fibers, or they’ll fucking die, so we militantly kept the off the carpet. Also, I was scrubbing the damn baseboards of that shithole at 2AM, like hell I didn’t clean it.
So I went in and complained, asked for photos and a description of the areas that weren’t cleaned, and the damaged carpet. Leasing company said that it was a mis-entry in their system and they would correct it. 2 days later I get a check for the deposit… and half of it is missing. Reasons for withholding : Standard cleaning fees, and pet treatment. So again I go and ask them, What the actual fuck. They said it was standard, everyone pays it.
So I pulled the pet addendum, no cleaning fee for small mammals (as in, not a cat or a dog) and, per the law in my state, the landlord is not allowed to withhold any part of the deposit for normal wear and tear and standard procedures. And… there was no mention of this in the lease that we both signed.
So I send them back a letter breaking down the language of the lease, the law, and advised that I will get my full deposit back, or I will seek damages for them unlawfully withholding my deposit. I also advised them that a small claims court could force them to produce records of all the other tenants they pulled this shit on.
Lotta talk in here about free speech that seems to be missing the point.
