Bytemeister,

Red beans and rice, or Cincinnati style chili. If you want cheap tasty and quick think of stews and sauces that will keep for about a week that you can split with a starch. I have maybe 10 dollars of ingredients in both of those dishes, and each one will get me 2 dinners and 5 lunches. Easy to cook too, basically cut your stuff up, plop it in a pot and add heat. No fancy cooking techniques or tools required.

What are some commonly known facts that are too bizarre for you to believe to be true?

For me it is the fact that our blood contains iron. I earlier used to believe the word stood for some ‘organic element’ since I couldn’t accept we had metal flowing through our supposed carbon-based bodies, till I realized that is where the taste and smell of blood comes from.

Bytemeister,

It is probably still “engine braking” in that the engine is putting resistance on the wheels, but it’s probably opening the throttle and halting fuel injection in order to maximize your coasting/minimize rolling resistance.

CVTs usually use a clutch rather than a torque converter, so they like to stay “locked up” to minimize wear.

I think. Not a mechanic, and I drive a manual.

Bytemeister,

Russia threatening a nuclear strike is about as credible as a 3 yr old threatening to hold their breath. Come on you cowardly bitches, nuke us already. I fukkin dare you. Nut up, or shut up.

Bytemeister,

In my experience, most wasps are okay.

Yellow jackets are straight up sadistic assholes however.

Bytemeister,

Start a business of taking HQ nude pics of other artists for their patreons. Now you are using your degrees, making more money, and you get free nudes.

Bytemeister,

Partner has a STEM master’s degree from a good university. I make the same amount in desktop support with no degree.

Dad has an MBA. Works on databases for a living.

Sister has Bachelor’s in Industrial Design from a top design school in the US. Has worked for big name industry players. She make more money from her 1 year self-paced coding boot camp.

Most degrees are worthless these days, and it’s high time we start demanding refunds. Cancel student debt. The promises made to us in highschool about career paths were blatantly false. Also, tax billionaires.

Bytemeister,

They have lots of theories, just no evidence.

Bytemeister,

I’d say the only thing more rare than forgetting your case and your buds being out of charge…is remembering to have a spare set of wired headphones in your pocket for just that scenario.

Bytemeister,

On the one hand, you make a compelling point for a headphone jack. On the other hand, you can just create a collaborative queue on Spotify or whatever music app you are using.

Bytemeister,

My last set of wireless headphones still work, and I used them for 10 years. I’ve never had a wired set last more than two, usually because the cable gets damaged.

Bytemeister,

A good set will come with wireless charging as well. I can charge my headphones on the back of my phone if I get desperate. Even better, each earbud has its own battery, and the case has its own battery, so if I ever get the low battery warning on my case, I just charge it while still using my earbuds without any issues.

Bytemeister,

So he lost his case, or forgot to charge them in the last week… And thats a fault of the product?

Bytemeister,

I’d consider having a ~6ft direct tether from my head to my pocket a needless limitation of a product.

Bytemeister,

All three options. I have a nice set of USB headphones for my computer. It would be really nice to have support for those included. There is plenty of space along the side of the phone to fit an extra USB-A port.

Bytemeister,

It would probably be easier and less damaging to find the fuse for the antenna/transmitter and pull it. That being said, it will probably stop the buttons on your keyfob from working. I think the keyless/touchless entry would still work. IIRC, that system works with active RFID near the door handles.

Bytemeister,

Probably not a “hard drive”, as vibration and shock are common things that cars experience, and not something that a hard drive handles well.

Bytemeister,

Yeah this is true. My partner’s car has a front facing camera that easily has enough resolution to ID license plates. Rear cam too. It could very easily log the plate and an image of every car that drives near it. No amount of (legally) wrapping your car in tinfoil will stop someone else’s vehicle from reporting your movements.

Bytemeister,

You’ve said things that are objectively true and I can’t refuse, so I’m just going to angrily downvote instead.

Bytemeister,

Lotta justified anti-landlord sentiment is overflowing the barriers of nuance and creating a flood of “everything should be free in a perfect society” quasi-marxism.

Bytemeister,

My FiL owns a few properties that he rents out. He “retired” at 49. Now he spends most of his day, every day, either improving empty/not ready properties, or maintaining the currently rented properties. The people he rents to simply cannot afford a house, at any price, or they do not have the time and skills or maintain their own home. He’s only evicted one person in his time as a landlord, literally because the tenant didn’t pay for 6 months, turned the property into a drug den and went on the run when the police tried to serve a warrant.

I get that landlords on the surface level can be seen as predatory, and I agree that there are a disproportionate amount of scum and anti-humam business drones in the rental business; but its important to remember that there are genuine people who buy, maintain and rent out properties so that their community isn’t rife with dangerous dilapidated buildings filled with squatters.

Bytemeister,

The housing literally wouldnt exist if he didn’t maintain them. It takes work to keep a building standing. He deserves to get paid for his work right?

Bytemeister,

It would be really nice if a certain someone went to jail over a certain phonecall…

How the fuck can I kill 20 hours?

My 13 hour flight just got delayed 7 hours, I’m stuck at my second airport, and I dont think I’m gonna make it. I have some movies and audio books on my phone, but really only anticipated having to burn the flight time via napping and some media, not 7 hours leading up to it, and I’m pretty sure I’m gonna mentally burn...

Bytemeister,

Snag some brochures and try your hand at origami. In the lounge, you can make paper airplanes, and in the air, you can make little figures/objects. I can easily spend an hour folding a paper airplane, taking my time to ensure the folds are even and crisp, and that there is no built up stress that warps the wings.

Bytemeister,

My partner actually just backed up their iPhone today using a cable. They don’t want to pay the extra storage fees for iCloud, and they like having control of their own data.
