It may sound silly, but this actually annoys me a little bit...

I have F2A for my stuff at work, and whenever I'm asked to introduce the code generated by my phone, I get this screen. What's wrong with it? That it specifically talks about Google Authenticator, immediately setting a preference towards one specific app (from Google, no less). I use Aegis Authenticator (free, open source, https://getaegis.app/), at it works perfectly.

Why the need to veer you towards Google apps by default?

COMPU73E,
@COMPU73E@mstdn.games avatar

@chris @hk What's wrong with Google Authenticator? Other than the cloud sync which I wish I could turn off, it seems fine?

Made it to the final boss in Eiyuden Chronicle Rising... and that's as far as I'm going. Had a couple of goes at it but there isn't a checkpoint outside the boss room, and it's so much more difficult than anything that has come before, so fuck that noise. Gonna YouTube the ending and call it done

Why do games do this? Put a massive difficulty spike right at the end

Still on my Ys Memories of Celceta trip so when I was shopping for harder to find, but cheap Visual Novels and RPGs, I had to add this one to the list.
€33 brand new, so I'll call that a steal. 🥰

@OutofPrintArchive @helligbird Nayuta is a standalone game and not related to the other Trails games, it plays nothing like them either, gameplay is more like Ys but kinda platform-y

There might be a vague story connection but nothing has been confirmed and it's just speculation I think (one of the characters in Nayuta might be the grandfather of a character from Cold Steel as they share a surname)

Just watched The Matrix for the first time in a very long time, probably 15-20 years. Still an utterly fantastic film. Everything still holds up very well imo

Loved the very end. Something I never noticed before; Neo is leaving his answerphone message about living in a world without rules or boundaries, as the camera zooms in on the words SYSTEM FAILURE until just the letters M F are visible on screen. Love the Wachowskis

COMPU73E,
@COMPU73E@mstdn.games avatar

He's literally saying "Anything is possible" as the letters M F fly towards the camera. This would've meant fuck all to the audience at the time, but now 🤯

COMPU73E,
@COMPU73E@mstdn.games avatar

I'm gonna reassess the two sequels too. I picked up the Blu-ray box set from CEX recently for the outrageous price of £6. I didn't like Reloaded or Revolutions much at the time, but I wonder if my opinion will have changed if I watch them again

COMPU73E,
@COMPU73E@mstdn.games avatar

Well I watched Reloaded, and... it's not as bad as I remembered! Pretty good in fact. The action scenes are great, particularly the extended car chase sequence.

I dunno about the plot though, it kinda makes sense but I kept having to rewind bits here and there to make sure I got the dialog right, and the bit near the end when Neo meets The Architect was where it all fell apart for me, and I stopped caring at that point

COMPU73E,
@COMPU73E@mstdn.games avatar

I just finished Revolutions... and it's as terrible as I remember. Worse even. A couple of good action sequences and some of the special effects are still great, but my god that film is a turd. It's so far removed from the first film it might as well be a different series entirely

In 3 movies they went from achingly cool millennial cyberpunk, to a 2+ hour teal-and-orange superhero movie. Why did they choose to do that. Take everything that was great about the first film and just... throw it out

COMPU73E,
@COMPU73E@mstdn.games avatar

@mforester I can see that, I'm just confused as to why "superhero movie" was the direction they chose to go in. I wanted more cyberpunk hacking, phones ringing and all of a sudden there's 5 people in the room, Neo doing impossible things with his power to warp the reality of the Matrix, things like that

The choice to focus on the "real world" battle for Zion was a huge mistake imo. They should've tried to free more people inside the Matrix and start a revolution in there or something

COMPU73E,
@COMPU73E@mstdn.games avatar

@mforester I also hoped they would do more with the "Agent Smith is somehow possessing a person in the real world" plotline. Have him be an infiltrator, like the Cylons from Battlestar Galactica, and get inside Zion to sabotage them from the inside

But nah, he stabs someone then fights Neo. Boo

COMPU73E,
@COMPU73E@mstdn.games avatar

@mforester another cool thing they could've done, is have Neo realise that while he may be a god inside the Matrix, in the real world he's just another guy, and decide that he wants to stay inside the simulation where he'll be more help

Then have them protecting his body while he's jacked in, or something. Would've made more sense than him somehow being able to use his powers in the real world, like at the end of the second film (did they actually explain that and I wasn't paying attention?)

COMPU73E,
@COMPU73E@mstdn.games avatar

@mforester oh I'm glad I hadn't missed anything, a real WTF moment

@OutofPrintArchive hard to argue with that review, although I would've given it a slightly better score

Only 22 demons though? That can't be right

COMPU73E, (edited )
@COMPU73E@mstdn.games avatar

@OutofPrintArchive it's basically the same game as DeSu 1 but with worse characters and story, and some nice QoL changes to the battle system and interface. It's a great game but the story is really what lets it down, as the story in the first game was SO good, with meaningful choices to make and multiple endings

[edit] which was exactly what the reveiw said, derp 😅

Had my bike serviced at work today for free. https://www.sustrans.org.uk/ had a mobile "Dr Bike" unit set up in the car park. My bike needed a new chain and rear cassette (had to pay for parts) but riding home was amazing. It feels like a whole new bike and actually changed gear when I clicked the lever 😲

Really happy, especially with how it all happened while I was at work and I didn't have to take time out of my day to visit a repair shop 🚴💨

I do wonder what goes through some people's minds sometimes, reading the replies to popular toots on here, just unhinged from reality

COMPU73E,
@COMPU73E@mstdn.games avatar

@OutofPrintArchive it's like, I read a reply and sometimes try and think about the thought process that led the person to posting that specific thing and I can't work it out

And then I usually just block/mute them if it's particularly rude

Saturday morning movie "Cops vs Thugs" (dir. Kinji Fukasaku, 1975) this is an absolutely fantastic film. A story of corrupt cops and warring Yakuza gangs set in 1963. I really enjoyed this, some great performances, most notably Bunta Sugawara as Detective Kuno

Great score too
