Apparently there's going to be a reboot of the Naked Gun movies...

Because capitalism can't let things die, they need to keep squeezing every single bit of beloved IP until it becomes an empty shell of its former self, devoid of everything that made it great in the first place.

This is the kind of thing that annoys me the most in .

I'm sorry, but how is this any good or fun? It's just cheap bullshit. I had just entered the arena.

I've stumbled upon a video elaborating over the idea of "Videogames are meant to be played, not looked at" discussing that graphics don't need to be awesome but the gameplay needs to be fun (case in point: Minecraft is the best selling game of all time), and I've realized that that's one of the main reasons I do so much . As long as the gameplay is engaging, graphics are just a means to an end. And old fun games don't require a latest-gen £1000 NVidia GPU to run decently.

It's sad that not only large companies go through the cycle, I'm starting to notice it in many content creators too.

I started following their feeds, YouTube channels, newsletters, etc. because I enjoyed what they said, the topics they brought up, and the way they discussed them. But as they gain traction, the quality of their products take a hit as they all inevitably veer towards self-promotion of courses, seminars, books, etc.

It's exhausting and quite depressing, honestly

  • Did you like how I spoke about mental health in the past? Remember to buy my new book, where I just regurgitate everything I already said!

  • I know you enjoy the breakdown of kettlebell exercises, so I'll bombard you with dozens of videos of unboxings of new gym equipment I got from our sponsors! And don't forget to attend my next seminar in LA!

  • You like our reviews of Switch games, why not watch this promoted episode about the latest shitty game we'll talk wonders about because £££?

Credit where credit's due, I think is the most infuriating soulslike I've ever played.

Basic enemies two-shotting you. Everyone tracks and follow you from kilometers away. And the "active reload" thing for the stamina sucks.

hk,
@hk@mstdn.games avatar

@mforester One thing I'm noticin here that was the same in Wo Long, they try to stack up multiple mechanics atop each other, it ends up all muddled.

Like, restoring your stamina is L1 aftdr an attack, but also L1 plus some button changes your stance, so sometimes you end up with a wrong stance because you were trying to recover stamina fast.

hk,
@hk@mstdn.games avatar

@mforester Combat and mission structure is quite similar, although not as savagely punishing. Also, it doesn't have the ki pulse to worry about.

Remember that comparison between Orwell's 1984 and Huxley's Brave New World, specifically the but that went "Orwell feared that the truth would be concealed from us. Huxley feared the truth would be drowned in a sea of irrelevance."?

The way LLMs are flooding every single corner of the internet with garbage is Huxley's fear, on a scale even he could not have predicted.

Lovely that the buttons on my Steam Deck have decided to stop working at all (even on the BIOS menu!) right now that I'm out of the house and without access to a keyboard to try and figure out what's going on. I suspect a bogus update, hopefully nothing serious.

hk,
@hk@mstdn.games avatar

Yup, there it is. With the keyboard and mouse connected I've managed to boot it properly and install the pending update.

The is back in business.

I just ran a little experiment.

I have Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin, and Ghostery installed in my Firefox, so I decided to access a few sites and see what happened. These are the results.

Does anyone notice the outlier?

It may sound silly, but this actually annoys me a little bit...

I have F2A for my stuff at work, and whenever I'm asked to introduce the code generated by my phone, I get this screen. What's wrong with it? That it specifically talks about Google Authenticator, immediately setting a preference towards one specific app (from Google, no less). I use Aegis Authenticator (free, open source, https://getaegis.app/), at it works perfectly.

Why the need to veer you towards Google apps by default?

hk,
@hk@mstdn.games avatar

@COMPU73E @chris For me it's precisely the cloud sync what makes me frown upon it... I reluctantly agree to having passwords sync'd across devices, but for things where I enable F2A I want to be in full control of those keys...

Also, it's part of my slow but steady effort to disentangle from Google 😅

Now that I am a handful of months away from turning 40, it is true that I look back at the person I was then I was in my 20's and I wince.

But on the other hand, me in my 20s would have probably winced too if he had known the person I am nowadays, so I guess we can call it a draw.

Just watched The Matrix for the first time in a very long time, probably 15-20 years. Still an utterly fantastic film. Everything still holds up very well imo

Loved the very end. Something I never noticed before; Neo is leaving his answerphone message about living in a world without rules or boundaries, as the camera zooms in on the words SYSTEM FAILURE until just the letters M F are visible on screen. Love the Wachowskis

hk,
@hk@mstdn.games avatar

@COMPU73E I watched it again a few years ago when they showed it in the cinema for its 30 anniversary (same cinema where I watched Ghost in the Shell a few weeks ago), and it was just perfect. It's just... chef kiss

I'm trying to debug an issue in my code at work, and my brain is just not helping.

It is like trying to solve a crime using these boards on the wall full of pictures, newspaper clippings, and post-it notes, all linked by red string. But the pins are 1/4 mm long, so when I pull from the thread to link another clipping to the case, two pins fall down, the string and the clippings they were holding go along with them, and the cat keeps playing with everything that falls to the floor.

hk,
@hk@mstdn.games avatar

@mforester @reycat I'm afraid none of those two options are viable here... Since all the code is intellectual property of my company, I must not expose it outside of it by any means 😅

And no worries, I have both a rubber duck to talk to (the one in my profile pic!) and a great wizard on my desk

Here's the video for my fight against the final boss in .

It is not particularly pretty, I've been quite reckless because I was not really expecting to be able to beat it on the second attempt, so I was going into the fight kind of in a "let's get a hold on the moveset" mentality... Then as the fight progressed I realized I had chances and took it more seriously 😅😅

hk,
@hk@mstdn.games avatar

@el_gran_edu @mforester I think the translator must have thought we were talking about Sekiro 😂😂😂😂

I mean, the translation is serviceable but still really bad xD

There's an account in Mastodon posting stuff related to the lore of Lies of P in German which I get to read because I use Google Translate... Looks like LibreTranslate still needs some work xD

With Slave Knight Gael dead, I guess this is the end of the second DLC, it's time to check out that final boss!

Gael has been a challenging boss, but not as much as Nameless King or Sister Friede. The extremely open space of the battle arena makes it very easy to get away from the most punishing attacks, each movement is very clearly telegraphed and have enough reaction time, so it was very easy to read (not so much to dodge!) and super fun to play
