Candelestine,

It’s a clever method of trolling. But if you come prepared and/or are willing to put some effort in, you actually can wreck them with evidence and sound arguments that shuts them completely up.

This is very satisfying.

Candelestine,

Just an anecdotal account. I was expressing my own experiences and how they make me feel, for which it would be challenging and largely unnecessary to provide evidence to a random dumbass on the internet, yes?

/not s, an example

Candelestine,

Just call it out and redirect back to the topic. It’s like training a dog.

Candelestine,

Don’t let them dictate the convo. You can assert control as well, don’t let them lead uncontested.

Candelestine,

It depends too much on way too many factors. Generally I’ll be almost as polite as they’re being.

Convos usually involve turn-taking though, so once you’ve provided evidence or a sound argument, you should not be forced to do it again. It should be their turn to assert something, and then possibly have to provide whatever.

Just don’t let the opportunity pass to treat them exactly, or potentially slightly worse, depending, than they’re treating you. Don’t stay on defense, assert, ask questions, directly contradict, whatever is needful.

Candelestine,

Good thing human population growth seems to level off and start dropping after awhile.

Candelestine,

France does not need NATO permission to deploy their own troops. They pulled out of the NATO command structure back in the 1960s.

Candelestine,

They don’t need evidence when they have their “gut instincts”.

Candelestine,

Reminds me of that episode of The Orville where the crew lands on that planet run by social media.

Candelestine,

Don’t feed the low-effort trolls folks. At least make them put a shred of effort in.

Candelestine,

That’s what the U part of UBI is for. Otherwise you just have a BI.

Nikki Haley: America Is Committing “Suicide” by Voting for Trump (www.vanityfair.com)

To use political jargon, Nikki Haley—who has lost primary contests in Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, and her home state of South Carolina—does not have a snow ball’s chance in hell of winning the GOP nomination for president. Still, she is apparently intent on not going down without a fight, and to that end, the former...

Candelestine,

“everyone I don’t like is all the same”.

How do you extremists get made, anyway?

Candelestine, (edited )

This cat has been lumping 90% of the country together for months now, we’ve gone back and forth on it before. There seem to be zero colors asides black and white in his eyes.

I’ve been curious where the hell he came from for awhile now.

It should be pretty damn clear there’s differences between an outright fascist and a generic pro-business idiot.

edit for typo

Candelestine,

Dude’s comment was clearly saying that Trump and Haley were the same. If someone cannot see the very clear and obvious differences between the two, their brainwashing has been strong.

Except I wonder if its brainwashing or just trolling.

Candelestine,

Haley does not have the Heritage Foundation’s 2025 plan in the wings. She would probably not have done a Jan 6th. If you can’t see the difference between a fascist and a shitty Mitch McConnell type, the problem with our country is you.

Nuance and details are important. People’s bullshit gut checks based on their feelings are not.

Candelestine,

ozma isn’t as bad imo.

This cat is a malicious commenter that shits on almost everything. ozma posts news articles and pushes on some genuinely important issues.

I argue with ozma from time to time, I definitely don’t always agree with their stances, but I have no real problems with them. I think people like that are important in a healthy democracy. Not a troll imo.

This one though, has me doubting sometimes.

Candelestine,

If you don’t acknowledge the repubs trying to fight against the fascist slide inside their own party, you’re just helping fascists get what they want. They’re doing a political purge. This should be remembered.

Candelestine,

Probably don’t want to just believe that her words reflect her stances. Much like McConnell, she’ll say whatever she thinks she needs to say to help accomplish her personal goals.

World is a complicated place, especially when you’re trying to not fall quickly to a purge, which is pretty clearly a goal she has. Otherwise she’d be gone by now.

TIL about the concept of Weaponized Incompetence, a psychological concept wherein you strategically fail to perform something you don't actually want to do (en.wikipedia.org)

This is illustrated by getting elected on a platform of erasing student loan debt and then pretending that you can’t do anything about it, or claiming to be against genocide and drawing out or never performing the process of pulling financial and political support for an ally who’s committing genocide.

Candelestine,

Huh. I thought that’d be about that “Lay Flat” movement among certain teens in China. Guess not.

Candelestine,

It’s really just not a very good unpopular opinion post. It’s literally the mainstream position of one of our two main political parties.

Which makes it a fairly meh troll post.

Candelestine,

God dammit. I had Miley Cyrus stuck in my head for two fucking hours after this headline was posted yesterday. I don’t even fucking like that song. WHYYY

Candelestine,

…not wrong. Except remember that an idea cannot be genuinely destroyed, since it’s not an actual physical thing. Even if you did somehow manage to destroy it in the present day, nothing prevents people from creatively coming up with it again.

Netanyahu wants to learn this the hard way.

Find another way that doesn’t involve death, destruction and ill-fated attempts at control.

Candelestine,

Not a platitude, a harsh and brutal reality. Though I do agree that it is time to fight fascism. Just don’t think you can actually destroy it by fighting like this is all some fictional story with a happily-ever-after. Real life doesn’t work that way, only fiction.

Real life needs more difficult and complicated fixes.

Candelestine,

Human ignorance can be fought too. Much more easily.

Candelestine,

There’s a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff that happens, look at hostage negotiations for the Gazan conflict. That’s very different from some global shadowy cabal running everything.

There’s countless secret meetings that happen regularly. The trick is that they’re not all the same party, they’re independent groups each with an independent agenda.

Barely-controlled chaos, not some carefully crafted, centuries-old hegemon, is what runs the world.
