I'm not familiar with spanish penal code, but I assume it was not that different from ours at the time, which means: honor killings were a serious thing, and more dangerous than any supposed legal punishment.
Killers used to get v short jail terms (until 40ys ago) 🙄

So, frankly, I always find absurd that they are going on & on about telling fathers, husbands or brothers for that matter
🤷🏻‍♀️

But it's a telenovela, so I can't expect that it makes much sense, I know

Wellp. I nearly bit my own hand off from how stressful today’s episode was.

First, Marta greets Fina in the shop and asks if she’s sad (Fina was standing there gazing out of a window). She admits she’s really distracted by thoughts of Marta with her husband. She asks point blank if they had sex last night and Marta hesitates then answers “do you really want to know?” (1/9)

There were 42 people in our apartment last night … at the same time

even my introverted ass had fun because seeing my wife surrounded by so many people who had gathered (several even flying in from out of state) to celebrate her 🥹 it was really lovely

and I spoke more Spanish in one night than I probably have for the last two years combined bwahaha

Marta asked Fina about her conversation with her father (no idea how she knew there was one, unless she’s assuming based on Fina’s prickly “what do you want” Fina is sad and wishes Marta could have held her after she fought with her dad. Marta says she wishes she could, but there are people roaming around everywhere like fucking ants and then also her husband is there. Fina is upset about the mention of this husband situation and stomps off to pout in the store room. Marta follows her like she’s gliding behind on a little string attached between them.

auto captioning models cannot be trusted for Chilean shows

two Chilean women from the series “Demente” - Flavia (Patricia Rivadeneira) and Javiera (Ingrid Cruz) Flavia has auburn hair just past her shoulders and is wearing thin layered gold chain necklaces and a low cut v neck dress in a brown color that’s… not a great match for her complexion but whatever she’s hot no matter what she wears (she changed her dress last minute because her shitty husband said something cruel to her) Anyway, the point of the clip is to highlight the auto caption error Flavia says “yo no tengo nadie, yo estoy completamente sola” But the caption reads “yo no tengo un avión yo estoy completamente sola” even if the language model ‘heard’ un avión (an airplane) the rest of the sentence should have lent context for correction So instead of “I have nobody, I am completely alone” the caption reads “I don’t have an airplane, I’m completely alone” ridiculous

I really dislike the translation of
“Doña [First Name]”

into “Mrs. [First Name]”

the use of Mrs. First Name is uncommon in the US (as opposed to Mrs. Surname, which is more common) though I can’t say how other English speaking countries do it.

Translating “Doña Marta” as “Mrs. de la Reina” also seems like it’s conveying something else.

The solution could be “Ms. Marta” perhaps but that’s still not very common and “Ms.” wasn’t really a thing before second wave feminist moment in the US…

If not Doña, I would use Madame or Lady...
They are not the same, but convey the sense of respect for the authority/privilege doña entails and sound old-fashioned like that one.

I personally would keep D, bc it conveys both the foreign & historical setting of the story.
And frankly I don't think it impedes anyone's understanding of anything.

My second choice would be Lady too.
Though Idk if she's an actual noble in this story or just a member of a powerful & respected family, at the end of the day you convey more truth with that word than any mrs or ms etc.

This novela reminds me of a very melodramatic italian novel I read 20ys ago, called Medusa - over which I might have spent rivers of tears 🙃 btw - but I have the feeling this one will end better (possibly the husband will die and the rich widow & her friend will travel to South America 😄)

Anyway, I would be surprised if he was more than 50.
Not sure about the hair either. But they look like they might not be his natural blend 🤷🏻‍♀️
