I'm gonna dig out my old semi-finished spec for an AP alternative. I started it a couple years ago as a portfolio piece before depression hit (and getting mocked for writing it in Python and PHP instead of Rust and Go like the big boys), but I have a sudden urge to finish it
I already have test implementations for full account migration, "lifeboats" for when an instance needs to unexpectedly shut down (so folks can just carry on using it without losing anything on the instance they designated as second choice), and encryption between instances (as well as an E2E DM implementation I'm pretty sure I need to re-work)
I really dislike the translation of
“Doña [First Name]”
into “Mrs. [First Name]”
the use of Mrs. First Name is uncommon in the US (as opposed to Mrs. Surname, which is more common) though I can’t say how other English speaking countries do it.
Translating “Doña Marta” as “Mrs. de la Reina” also seems like it’s conveying something else.
The solution could be “Ms. Marta” perhaps but that’s still not very common and “Ms.” wasn’t really a thing before second wave feminist moment in the US…
@shippychaos
I personally would keep D, bc it conveys both the foreign & historical setting of the story.
And frankly I don't think it impedes anyone's understanding of anything.
My second choice would be Lady too.
Though Idk if she's an actual noble in this story or just a member of a powerful & respected family, at the end of the day you convey more truth with that word than any mrs or ms etc. #imo
This report makes some business-as-usual assumptions. E.g.
"Growth".
And they forget that 40% of global shipping is of fossil fuels.
And that countries like the US are re-shoring industries (see CHIPS act).
Together, we still have choices.
Let's make the right choices: on our plates, what we buy, whom we vote for.
"Global #shipping firms are looking for ways to lower their carbon footprints, particularly as the International Maritime Organization (#IMO), which regulates the global shipping industry, is being pushed to implement a charge on the sector's greenhouse gas emissions."
"None of us like the fact that we are burning dirty fuel. But no authority is answering what the best fuel is."
@RickiTarr If it’s something a person wants to do at all, I think it’s wise to wait until mid-life. It’s good to be independent & self-sufficient—to know yourself & to figure out your values & needs & what’s truly important to you & what isn’t—to learn to be comfortable drawing & maintaining boundaries in your relationships before trying to blend your life with the life of a partner. #IMO
Russia was not re-elected to the council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), a United Nations specialized agency responsible for regulating shipping.
The landmark deal — for a slow-moving, polluting industry resistant to change — includes a pledge to reduce its emissions to net-zero “by or about 2050.”
"The International Maritime Organization, the UN division that governs global #shipping, will meet in London today for a fortnight of talks on #decarbonising and the potential for a new levy of up to $100 (£78) a tonne of carbon produced by ships.
Research published on Monday found that #CO2 from shipping could be cut by between a third and a half this decade by using already available techniques and embarking on innovative technology such as hydrogen."
The deal could be worse, but also could be a lot better.
"#NetZero “by or around, i.e. close to 2050” depending on “national circumstances.”
The plan also includes interim commitments under the heading “indicative checkpoints,” where countries would aim to reduce planet-heating pollution from #shipping by at least 20% by 2030 and 70% by 2040, compared to 2008 levels. The document also refers to “striving” targets of a 30% cut by 2030 and an 80% cut by 2040. "
"In this article, #CarbonBrief explains the key sticking points at the #IMO talks and what nations ultimately agreed on #emissions targets, levies and fuel standards."
Indigenous Microorganisms (IMO) are captured & cultured by burying a box of cooked rice in the ground surrounded by leaf litter and fungal matter. White fuzz forms on the rice , this is IMO#1, add this to brown sugar and ferment it & you have a refrigerator stable IMO#2.
I added a tablespoon of IMO#2 to approx each 15 L of rainwater and mixed into bran until I had the right moisture level (i.e. when I squeezed the bran in my hand I had one or two drips of water between my fingers).
I used 35 kgs of bran. This should now heat up to 40°-50°C, will need turning to avoid going hotter. In a week this should be covered in white fuzz (IMO#3). 🤞
I’ll then add equal quantity of soil to the bran and again this should grow a white fuzz in a week. This will be IMO#4 and the end of the process. This can be stored and used as a biologically rich soil amendment.
Peeling back the layer of hay there are small strands of white fuzz appearing on the surface of the bran inoculated with IMO#2. It’s not heated up as high or as fast as I was expecting but it was up to 25°C this morning after unexpected overnight rain and a low outside temperature of 5°C.
