Chetzemoka,

Ok, I know some country folks, and I can picture trying to deposit a chicken or maybe even a cow. But what on earth possessed this person to think an owl had financial value lol?

Chetzemoka,

I mean, I get it. But that also makes me realize whoever thinks THAT sounds like a woman screaming has never heard a random bobcat in the woods lol:

Chetzemoka,

That is quite the dome you have there, Dolores.

Chetzemoka,

I’d rather try to rescue an owl by mistake than a bobcat! 😧

Right???

That’s pretty funny, I never heard the bobcat do that before.

Oh really? I grew up deep in bobcat territory. They’re terrifying.

Chetzemoka, (edited )

I was gonna say, actually thinking about pocketing the excess next time I pull some from the Omnicell to see if this works lol

Chetzemoka,

I will never get enough of baby owl fuzz.

Chetzemoka,

I was honestly onboard right up to the point that Thor cracked jokes immediately after learning that his people’s children had been kidnapped. That should have been the moment we pivoted back to Thor the hero. For Thor to be that unserious in that moment just felt really out of character, even for wacky/funny Thor, which is a character I love personally.

I think Ragnarok struck a much better balance between funny Thor and hero Thor.

Chetzemoka,

It’s illegal to ask you not to discuss wages in the United States. Violation of federal labor law.

Chetzemoka,

I was just thinking I should make a point to check in lol. We start negotiations tomorrow with the whole newly unionized hospital thing. So I’ve been busy just avoiding life in the run up to that shenanigans.

Chetzemoka,

Which podcast, if I can ask? I’m interested to hear the conversation around the issue.

And I really should make a point to pop in here and only here to see adorable owls lol. So much of the general internet is just a toxic hellscape, and you help make this community a breath of fresh air.

I just need to learn to control my interneting habits better hahaha

Chetzemoka,

Oh interesting. That group seems to be specifically about the national union called National Nurses United. Up here in Mass, we have a really strong state union, the Massachusetts Nurses Association, that is representing my hospital’s nurses at the negotiating table. My MNA seems very transparent in my experience with them.

I’ll definitely give this a listen though. I think the strength and health of unions anywhere affects the strength and health of unions everywhere.

Chetzemoka,

That definitely reads as nipping/biting on first glance. But I guess if you’ve devoted one pair of your appendages to something as highly specialized as flight, and the other pair are giant murder claws, then your options for demonstrating affection are somewhat limited lol

Harbor-UCLA doctor is fired after county finds he regularly gawked at patients' genitalia (www.latimes.com)

A premier L.A. County teaching hospital has fired one of its highest-ranking doctors following a two-year investigation that found he regularly gawked at the genitalia of anesthetized patients and never disclosed that he was being paid by a medical device company whose products he used on patients....

Chetzemoka,

Oh it gets so much worse:

“Much of the misconduct described in the notice had been reported years ago to the county, raising questions about the inaction of hospital leaders. Kwong’s secretary complained more than a decade ago that her boss would remark on the grooming of anesthetized patients’ pubic hair”

So why did this suddenly become a problem now?

“Kwong, an orthopedic surgeon, received more than $700,000 from the medical device company Zimmer Biomet, which makes joint replacements, without reporting the conflict of interest to the county. He flew twice on the company’s private plane to its Indiana headquarters with medical residents from the hospital, according to the Feb. 27 notice informing him of his firing.”

Owl-natomy: Acoustic Location of Prey / 3D Hearing Research Paper Summary (lemmy.world)

In reading Jennifer Ackerman’s Book, What an Owl Knows, many interesting scientific papers are mentioned, detailing some of the journey to our current level of owl understanding. Many of these are available online, but they are not always the most approachable things to read. I’ve bookmarked a few to explorer and try to...

Chetzemoka, (edited )

I think the funny thing about all the hypotheses is the disbelief it demonstrates in the possibility that hearing could lead to such precise locating. Like echolocation we seem to be able to accept because ok, you’re sending out sounds like radar, we do that too. But the idea that an animal could just hear things and discern that much information out of it was incomprehensible somehow lol. Like, oh they’re just listening?! That’s it, that’s the whole thing??

And personally I’ve never quite been able to comprehend how having ears covered in fuzzy feathers doesn’t muffle sound even though I know the research shows the feathers amplify sound.

Also, the amount of brain calculation required to integrate asymmetrical sensory input is incredible.

Chetzemoka,

Ok, that baby definitely looks like it’s about to hunt some Gelflings though hahaha

Chetzemoka,

Went to a comedy show Saturday in Chicago and was delighted by the rolling jubilee of compliments happening in the ladies room queue. Just people passing the queue on their way out complimenting those waiting in line. It seemed like each of us just wanted to keep it going when we left. Heartwarming

Chetzemoka,

Star Trek. It’s a whole plotline with O’Brien

Chetzemoka,

WOW! This guy is so striking. Look at those black parentheses around the face and that iris color.

Chetzemoka,

Yeah it’s an interesting evolutionary balance to have to strike. “Hiding yet also attractive to potential mates”

Actually, as a human, I sympathize 😂

Chetzemoka,

This is a piece of lint I found in my dryer vent, stop lying.

Chetzemoka,

Children are not routinely getting permanent surgical interventions for gender affirming care. Tattoos and piercings can both be undone.

“Bro bro I’m JUST ASKING QUESTIONS BRO” en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sealioning

Then the politicians can update licensing organizations. We DO NOT NEED NEW LAW about this or about pregnancy care.

Chetzemoka,

Not my fault you’re wrong ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Chetzemoka,

OP is in Denmark, so no recluse spiders there lol.
