NO! I know Edward Gorey quite well. I’m an old goth kid lol. But I didn’t know there was a museum up here or else I’d have dragged my sister there when she was up visiting. I’ll definitely check it out. Thanks for the recommendation
Well, in this particular patient population, I think you’re kind of damned if you do, damned if you don’t. We always seem to prefer the risk of intervention over the risks of conservative management
It shouldn’t be this tough. I think that’s the entire point. We remain so ignorant, as a profession, of medical conditions that primarily affect women. It’s not an inherent mystery of the universe. It’s simply a lack of bothering to do the research and come up with better ways.
There were a lot of owl specimens on display at the museum. Primarily, I enjoyed it for the ability to compare the sizes between the species I haven’t seen in person yet....
In searching out owl things on my Pittsburgh trip, I came across the owl restroom at The Zenith, a primarily vegetarian/vegan restaurant and indoor flea market....
Oh man, so when I was a kid (I’m approaching age 50) there was this whole trend among the Appalachian grandmas to have their homes decorated in theme with one type of animal or a certain brand of trinket.
One of my grandmothers, it was tigers. Whole house everything was tigers. Another it was these little ceramic angel/cherub figures. And of of them had a friend with a house full of owl stuff like these pictures.
This sends me right back, and it’s definitely unsettling memories. I always found the themed house thing a little creepy.
Oh the turkey theme, I almost forgot. I recently visited my aunt who moved to a place just outside Baltimore, and she has an elderly Appalachian neighbor there that we visited. Mounted fish, Jesus, wood paneling, brown carpet, even a CRT television. Full on PTSD flashbacks hahaha
Oh it was the real deal, ancient console. The picture was horrific, but she reported that she couldn’t really see it anyway and was just listening to the football 😂
In my post about Cedar the Screech, I mentioned being surprised at the lack of real structure plumicorns have, and they’re just really a small group of feathers they have muscle control over....
Yes, it is exactly! And with my background of an entire family working in chemical manufacturing, I often equate the difference between nurses and doctors to the difference between front line operators and engineers.
Nothing embarrasses me more than to call a doc just to be asked if I tried something that was really obvious and I should have tried before calling them. Or before I double checked and/or gathered all of the relevant information. Unless a patient is actively crashing to the point I’m calling in the entire cavalry, then I take the time to do my own job thoroughly before bothering someone else about it.
