“Provocative.” 🤦🏻‍♀️🙄 GET HIM OFF THE COURT. Gift: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/22/us/justice-alito-flag-appeal-to-heaven.html?unlocked_article_code=1.t00.Ihnd.LkwD_75RA6zD&smid=url-share

“Another Provocative Flag Was Flown at Another Home

The justice’s beach house displayed an “Appeal to Heaven” flag, a symbol carried on and associated with a push for a more Christian-minded government. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/22/us/justice-alito-flag-appeal-to-heaven.html

@GottaLaff. Thank you for gifting this. Glad to see this covered even belatedly (people are afraid) but "provocative"? The NYT whiffs the headline yet again.

I will be in at the 's Association to discuss "The Alzheimer's Journey: , , , Love." It is a hybrid event (on line and in-person) that will take place on August 20th from 1 to 2 pm.

@eco_amandine. Thank you for these kind words. I am always glad to hear that what I have to say might be helpful but also sad that it resonates. Sending strength.

@GabeMoralesVR. I am so sorry you lost your grandpa to Alzheimer's and very much know what you are saying. I lost my father to early-onset Alzheimer's and have -- after decades -- surrendered to knowing that I will spend the rest of my life recovering from witnessing his dying that way. You may have done some reading about genetic factors but in case you haven't, you might find this useful. Sending strength. https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/about-dementia/is-dementia-hereditary

@GabeMoralesVR. Thank you for these kind words. I think my mother felt that way, too. The guilt and the grief and the sadness is brutal for everyone. There is a wonderful book about the complexities (especially the emotional ones) of caregiving by Dasha Kiper called Travelers to Unimaginable Lands. It's a series of chapters focusing on caregiving experiences (husband/wife; mother/child; father/child).

@GabeMoralesVR @msquebanh. I hear you and it's very scary. Believe me, I am no glass half full person (!) but there are things to do: hearing aids if you're having hearing issues; CPAP machine if you have sleep apnea; try not to isolate socially; Mediterranean diet (almost all of the neurologists I studied w/at UCSF -- when I wrote a book about my father -- were on this diet); if you think you have depression, see a dr and get it treated; exercise. What's good for the body is good for the brain.

@GabeMoralesVR @msquebanh. Superb! I'm sorry about the other health reasons, though.

@GabeMoralesVR @msquebanh. I hope you don't mind my female-splaining. I do a lot of outreach on the topic and want to share the bits I know.

@eco_amandine. I am not a neurologist so can't answer that question. I'm sorry. There is, however, a disease under the dementia umbrella called Parkinsons disease dementia. This is an image in the memoir I wrote with , Dr. Bruce Miller of UCSF. It's not much but maybe a little helpful? I am so sorry about your grandmother's brothers.
