I want to change my pedals for better ones, but they're stuck. I've tried all sorts, including use of a strong person, heat, and WD40. They've only been on the bike for a couple o months, and i greased them when i put them on, so I don't know why they're so stuck. Any novel suggestions short of a grinder?

@bluGill @CloudyMrs Plus Gas is a good penetrating spray if you can find it. I have a feeling that the makers of WD40 now make several different sprays including a penetrator. A trip to B&Q or Wickes will sort you out.

A sunny morning bike ride alongside the River Lune on my favourite cycling track.
I passed some friends – Mario walking his dog and Rob out in his Wallings Ice Cream delivery van. I rode by the marina at Glasson and up to Bodie Hill to see the view over the salt marshes before finishing at Plover Scar with the songs of curlews oystercatchers, lapwings and sedge warblers. I saw a merlin.

Powerline pylons carrying cables over a river and salt marshes. I've washed out the colours
A steel touring bicycle with panniers leaning against a wooden fence and a road sign saying 'Bodie Hill'. Beyond the fence the land drops away to a flat green river estuary with salt marsh. In th edistance are some houses and trees on the far side of the river.
A coastal scene. A small lighthouse standing on a rocky/sandy shore. A river channel can be seen beyond it. The tide is out and the lighthouse appears accessible to somebody with good waterproof boots

I'm back in my cycling groove. I've been using the Mercian as my primary local transport for a while and as the weather improves I'm thinking about commuting possibilities.
When I first posted this picture on Twitter 5 years ago I got a sincerely angry response from somebody who lived close to the location. They felt I should be photographing the beautiful local scenery, not a grubby old garage.

One of a series of photographs of Fires by Ellie Davies. She's the person who made the cover photo used for Arboreal.

Some really gorgeous images to be found on her website: https://elliedavies.co.uk

The starling murmuration from last night. Bitterns can be heard booming early on.

@shojiwax There's a great book entitled 'Affluence without Abundance - The Disappearing World of the Bushmen' by James Suzman. Full of wonderful insights

I bought a CD on eBay a couple of days ago. It arrived today. That's good service, but it was made better by a note from the seller saying that he'd included a second CD that he thought I might like and asked that I give it to a charity shop if it wasn't to my taste. It was an album of Villa Lobos and Scarlatti played by John Williams!

I'm very excited to discover that the 'Moths of Lancashire' is getting close to publication. This book is co-written by my friend Steve and pulls together millions of records of moths in Lancashire and includes photos that I have contributed. It's an addition to the great tradition of British amateur naturalists producing valuable scientific works. I'm really proud of Steve and honoured to have contributed with my own records and pictures.

Fabian Cancellara leading the Paris-Roubaix pack on the Pavé d'Arenberg in 2011. When I saw this picture I realised that I didn't remember the event as I was too occupied with my camera.
When I returned to Arenberg the following year I left my camera at home and enjoyed the race far more (though I can't prove that as I have no pictures!)

I met an old friend a few weeks ago, somebody who has been a keen cyclist for many years, and he told me that he'd all but given up riding his bike because there is a palpable feeling that there is less space for bikes on our roads since the pandemic. It's too dangerous. here's something that backs up his hunches.

The stone circle at Duddo in Northumberland, a few miles south of the Scottish border. Reckoned to be about 4000 years old and made of sandstone and have weathered dramatically, rather like my face.
