No algorithm can replace human wisdom and analysis.

But no algorithm will need to if we have already abandoned — wholesale — a millennium of critical reading and thinking skills.

Ideological reductionism is the art of oversimplification.

It's the act of stripping away nuance, context, and the messy reality of the world in favor of a black-and-white narrative.

It's the belief that every problem has a single, easy solution and that those who disagree are not just wrong but morally bankrupt.

I don’t need an “AI PC”

I need a laptop with a word processor and an internet connection.

I have realised that I get a lot more done when I spend less time thinking or worrying about my tools or processes or productivity hacks. I write lists of things. I write notes. I use the browser that comes with my laptop. Less friction. More output.

Social Darwinism twists the biological theory of natural selection into a blunt club to batter the less fortunate.

It ignores the complex environmental, social, and economic factors that shape outcomes in the modern world.

Most of all, it absolves us of any responsibility to help our fellow humans.

It’s the philosophy that drove the financial crisis. The same philosophy that drove the NSDAP.

The world is big and complex. There is more than one way to look at it. The more we can expand our reality tunnel—or even step outside it once in a while—the better we can understand each other and make sense of it all.

What does this remind you of?

“The majority of middle-class Germans treated the National Socialists along the lines described by the historian Friedrich Mei-necke in December 1930: 'People laugh at their economic demands, and the upper ten thousand dutifully berate their rowdyism on the street, as the conventions of polite society demand; yet these very circles continue, quietly yet unabated-ly, to murmur about how useful National Socialism might become.’”

Creators who are burned out by renting space on someone else’s platform and playing the Shopping Channel game, squeezing dollars out of sponsored promotions, eventually shift toward a direct funding patronage model.

Of course we do. It's the only model that respects our creativity and still makes commercial sense.

Or...does it?

We've all heard the personal finance advice popularised by Robert Kiyosaki: "Pay yourself first."

The idea is that before you pay your bills, before you buy anything else, you should set aside money for savings and investing. Supposedly, this prioritizes your financial future.

I've never liked this advice. It rings hollow. It feels selfish.

“Often we make decisions not based on a clear picture of what we want, but for countless other reasons. out of fear, or caution, blind optimism, anger, or simply because we are following ‘the plan’ which is the right way of living we feel is imposed on us by the rest of the world.”

From my brother’s writing.

It’s worth a read, I can promise you.

Unintelligent speculation:

(1) speculating when you think you are investing;

(2) speculating seriously instead of as a pastime, when you lack proper knowledge and skill for it; and

(3) risking more money in speculation than you can afford to lose.

The "spell" Hitler cast is what we often call a "reality distortion field"—an ability to bend perceptions, convincing followers to believe the impossible and disregard facts and reason.

We've glorified this trait, especially in charismatic business leaders.

And it's a terrible mistake.

I take notes obsessively for every book I read.

It’s not a shortcut. It’s laborious.

But to be honest - I don’t trust myself to absorb anything I don’t write down.

The business book Industrial Complex would have us believe that the keys to success are hiding in plain sight. For just $29.95, we can unlock the secrets of billionaire CEOs and visionary founders. But the truth is, most of these books offer little more than survivorship bias masquerading as insight.

If you want to understand the forces that shape industries that make or break companies, you're better off looking to the past.
