Eeyore_Syndrome

@Eeyore_Syndrome@sh.itjust.works

I cooked food for 20 years. Now I build computers and dive down Linux 🐇 🕳️ on a personal learning journey.

Mostly, I cat sit and watch anime when not gaming or editing files.

Fibromyalgia sucks! Existence is pain and resistance is futile. Thanks for noticing me.

Also consider Universal Blue Kinoite or Bazzite:

Think Fedora Kinoite, but with extra goodness.

Miss the AUR? Just spin up an Arch Distrobox with ujust distrobox-arch and export whatever you want. just and distrobox are pretty amazing.

Can also do the same with Ubuntu/Debian distroboxes.

Atomic Fedora is amazing.

Have an Nvidia card?

Images also available for Framework and Surface as well.

Wanna make your own IMG?

Wanna focus more on work/development?

Hurry up and buy out+merge w/ HiDive kthxbye. ❤️

Their Android TV app is finally decent as well.

Just wanted to share.

Linux working in one monitor but not in the other

So, yesterday I was trying to install Fedora on a PC with an Nvidia graphics card, it is a bit old and it has an Intel CPU. Basically as soon as I booted the USB it went all weird like if it would be having a graphical glitch like going all rainbow in some parts and stop responding, I tried a few more times under a UEFI secure...

Eeyore_Syndrome,
@Eeyore_Syndrome@sh.itjust.works avatar

What’s your exact hardware?

Did you install with secure boot disabled?

Probably Nouveau issue. ⚠️

For installing Nvidia drivers on Fedora:

Or give Universal Blue a try, take the pain away:

Atomic desktops are cool.

Also available as Bazzite for 🎮:

Or Project Bluefin for 🖥️ dev:

If you want a KDE Fedora powered experience I definitely have to suggest Universal Blue Kinoite-main or Bazzite-Desktop. 🤟

Universal Blue project is OCI RPM OSTREE container native, atomic Fedora.

Silverblue/Kinoite/Serica/Onyx, but with extra batteries+codecs+hardware acceleration out of the box.

“Think Chromebook easy, but Fedora.”

Bazzite is pretty amazing 🎮:

Project Bluefin for Developers 🦖:

If you update your normal Fedora system, they should all be running the same kernel.

Sometimes the installers can be stale…you can try installing ISOs from the net installer or nightlies:

Rather… I tried to find links to share… But everything looks to be rawhide… 😕

On atomic side, ublu automatically updates the system image, any layered RPMs as well as flatpaks and other containers/Docker/Podman/Distrobox.

Like Steam OS, if you want to enable -testing channel for updates on Ublu, you can make it more bleeding edge.

Do people who are in late stage dementia still aware of the concept of death?

Seeing famous actors e.g. Robin Williams, and Bruce Willis suffering from dementia made me wonder in later stages do the people still aware of death? We all know death because we know the process we learn from or it’s just that we instinctively aware of it?

YSK: To prevent mashed potatoes from being gummy, boil the potatoes whole.

When a potato cooks, the starches contained in each cell are released as the cell walls break down. These starches absorb the potato’s internal moisture and swell and soften. These two processes are what transform a raw, hard potato into a cooked, softer potato fit for mashing....

Mostly it’s about using room temp water in the pot.

If you use hot water, thinking they will cook faster, that’s the step that will make them gluey for sure.

So start them off in room temp water.

I prefer unpeeled Red Bliss 🥔 myself.

I simmer some milk or cream and butter with some roasted garlic for the real goodness.

Bigger potatoes, chunk em into quarter size.

Definitely peel starchy potatoes.

Waxy ones like Red Bliss or Golden/New Potatoes, I leave the skin on for nutrients/nutrition.

And don’t let them sit in the water after for too long, at least drain them first if you aren’t gonna mash right away before serving.

I think premiumize doesn’t care if you use multiple IP addresses. When you do, it deducts some Fair Use points. Instead of getting an account ban.

I also use mine as a seed-box for torrents. When I’m not just streaming on my Kodi Setup with Seren / TMDb Helper / Trakt.

Also have it set-up with my RSS feeds for Anime.

There’s a command to hide the Silverblue/RPM of Firefox & change your default browser to the Flatpak’d Firefox in GNOME settings:

sudo mkdir -p /usr/local/share/applications/

sudo cp /usr/share/applications/firefox.desktop /usr/local/share/applications/

sudo sed -i "2a\NotShowIn=GNOME;KDE" /usr/local/share/applications/firefox.desktop

sudo update-desktop-database /usr/local/share/applications/

Or can remove Firefox and Firefox Language Packs as a custom layer:

rpm-ostree override remove firefox-langpacks firefoxUniversal Blue images remove it from the image entirely and has FF flatpak out of box.

Opinion: It's about time a Steam service for TV existed

I know you can buy access to content to some TV shows on the Apple store, Amazon and the Microsoft Store - but these are still subject to geoblocks, not accessible in many countries and only offer a relatively small selection of TV shows anyway (and even then they're subject to this shit.)...

At the end of the day, it’s not pirating when licenses are abandoned/hoarded or legit lost by studios etc etc. I consider that abandonware.

Dogma is one good example:

VH1 Pop Up Video is an amazing example:

Fuk the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 🤬

You didn’t say what CPU you are choosing. 5500X3D and 5700X3D are literally around the corner. But for gaming the 5800X3D would be best in slot for AM4.

Christopher Nolan Says Buy ‘Oppenheimer’ on Blu-ray ‘So No Evil Streaming Service Can Come Steal It From You’: ‘We Put a Lot of Care’ Into Home Release (variety.com)

Christopher Nolan took a playful swipe at streaming while introducing a Los Angeles screening of “Oppenheimer” that was devoted to spotlighting the film’s craft. Crew members reunited for the event Monday evening, billed as “The Story of Our Time: The Making of ‘Oppenheimer.'” The director said a lot of time and...

Can confirm, been using it since…launch almost. Was on Ublu Kinoite Main38 when F38 went into beta.

@Eeyore_Syndrome@sh.itjust.works avatar

**To clarify:**I was using Fedora Kinoite 37 already:

When I stumbled upon Jorge’s YouTube videos and his excitement for the Univeral Blue project made me just have to join/try it out.

So when the beta for Fedora 38 went live, instead of rebasing Kinoite to 38, I rebased to Universal Blue 38:

rpm-ostree rebase ostree-image-signed:docker://ghcr.io/ublue-os/kinoite-main:38

(The kinoite-main image since I have an AMD GPU)

Now I’m on Bazzite 39 Desktop:

rpm-ostree rebase ostree-image-signed:docker://ghcr.io/ublue-os/bazzite:latest

The Full Image List:

NVIDIA Images:

Honestly it’s a better out of box experience than even a chromebook. Except it’s Fedora. With lots of extra goodness and tweaks.
