Fmstrat,

Respectful post, but respectfully disagree. The longer the fediverse can stay free of monetary-driven communities, the longer it will last. Wait until the proposals for blue check marks and karma hit the ActivityPup "plus" standard and it's too late for the platform.

Fmstrat,

The one thing missing from the trinity is "effort". For instance, you could make any Dal, which would fit the trinity, but takes a lot of time. There are books with hundreds of Dal recipes that all taste different and work, too. And this is just one example. Less than a dollar a meal if made in bulk with rice.

Fmstrat,

You just made a food pyramid that isn't stupid.

Fmstrat,

Only truly cheap if you make it yourself. That's why I commented below on the missing item of "effort".

Who owns the Fediverse? I mean who owns and runs the hardware that runs this system?

I've been talking to many people about the controversy with Reddit, why I left it and why I went onto Lemmy, Kbin and Mastadon instead. Some of my friends have commented that the control is still a problem as other platforms and it is all dependent on who owns the software, who owns the hardware, who are the admins, who are the...

Fmstrat,

Think of it like email vs a website. Microsoft.com isn't connected to Yahoo.com, but they store email originating from both places. The difference here is those emails are email lists (posts and comments from subscribed communities) and get sent automatically once they learn each other exist (because a user asked to get an email).

Fmstrat,

Same in Firefox. And if you only get the preview in reader mode, refresh after you are in reader mode.

Fmstrat,

Oh how I feel this. 100% me before WFH.

Fmstrat,

Your message is similar to the one where I learned about the restriction. I can imagine this will occur more over time.

Fmstrat,

One comment, account is new. Either they forgot the /s or they're a troll.

Fmstrat,

The not being able to click on a message in the inbox and get to the comment in context is a big one for me.

Comcast complains to FCC that listing all of its monthly fees is too hard (arstechnica.com)

The FCC rules will force ISPs to accurately describe fees in labels given to customers, but Comcast said it wants the FCC to rescind a requirement related to "fees that ISPs may, but are not obligated to, pass through to customers." These include state Universal Service fees and other local fees....

Fmstrat,

Didn't realize I couldn't downvote. Might be time to look elsewhere.

Fmstrat,

I didn't come here to have my options limited. I'd stay on Reddit if that were the case, and I don't need another YouTube "remove dislike for my own good" moment.

Context: I rarely used downvotes on Reddit, but there were also pretty involved mods. I could see in this federated world a bit of wildness, and not being able to snuff out the misleading with downvotes could be an issue. I hope I rarely use it here, too, but it will only take not being able to once for it to be a deal-breaker.

Fmstrat,

If I had figured out how to search for threads, I would point you to the thread from yesterday that got a bunch of comments. The answer is, yes, but.

It's not as efficient on the network, as it's a client getting all content for your subscriptions that isn't distributed to other users. But it will work just fine and has advantages like permanent account and control. Invite your friends, all it takes is one or two to make it worth the overhead.

Fmstrat,

backend changes for a more unified codebase between the desktop client and the Steam Deck client.

Who wants to bet desktop Big Screen quick-chat in RL gets broken again.

Fmstrat,

From the article:

twin brothers Adam Kaplan and Daniel Kaplan, who allege Blanche and Cadwalader forged their signatures on a retainer agreement and “severely” overbilled them

also reportedly allege their former attorneys are now refusing to turn over their case file to their new lawyers

Fmstrat,

If I had more free time, I'd make a migration tool.

Fmstrat,
Fmstrat,

I run my own fork where I added MySQL support for aliases. But otherwise it's great.
