I’m currently working on my masters in clinical mental health counseling and the concept of parts very deeply resonated with me. I couldn’t believe it was never really discussed in my undergrad education.
Dr. Richard Schwartz conceptualized Internal Family Systems (IFS) and there are a lot of great videos and podcasts of Dr. Schwartz discussing IFS and parts. Despite it’s name, IFS is very much relevant to an individual, not merely a family systems approach.
Breaking from viewing the Self from a mono-mind perspective to a parts approach just makes so much sense. A way it was explained to me was thinking of dissociative identity disorder (multiple personalities) but not to a pathological extreme.
We all have different parts of our Self, and they will surface at different times (e.g., protector part surfacing when someone threatens us), and that accounts for rapid behavior shifts that we all have at times/have witnessed.
As for your writing, it can absolutely be both therapeutic and serve as a means to deeply reflect and develop our ideas and personal philosophies. I enjoy writing too for those very reasons, and I enjoyed creating a blog for that express purpose. This masters program occupies my free time to the degree that I can’t really focus on it at the moment, but I’m sure I’ll feel like passionately exploring and developing topics there again in the future.
I just want to add that we all are deeply, inherently flawed people, and life presents an endless pursuit and opportunity for personal growth. We never stop growing as a person until our final developmental stage; death.
One thing that gives me hope in challenging times (including currently/this last year of my life…) was something an undergrad psychology professor drilled into me:
You cannot have personal growth without hardship; without struggle.
I’ve repeated this to myself practically as a mantra in trying to rebuild my life after covid nearly destroyed it last year.
We can’t grow as a person without struggling, and we end up stronger and more resilient on the other side.
Even when challenging our own beliefs and trying to maintain a reflective equilibrium, we must persevere through the unpleasant internal physiological tension from cognitive dissonance.
Personal growth isn’t just difficult, but it develops from difficulty.
OP shouldn’t view themselves as pathetic; they should view themselves as growing as a person. We all have plenty of room to grow and improve.

That’s precisely why I left L.W. They also were removing community posts voicing opposition to threads federation. I witnessed it firsthand, where posts I commented in (and in which the majority of comments opposed it) were removed.
Now they removed the piracy communities again after promising not to. They are straight up untrustworthy and don’t care about what their users actually want.
I am happy on feddit.de. They are defederated from Threads and the tankie instances.
I’m happy on feddit.de, as they are really only defederated from the tankies and Threads.
I left L.W when they federated with Threads and tried lemm.ee, but dealing with the tankies is so annoying I had to find another new home and settled for feddit.de.
Yeah lemmy.ml has gotten worse with tankies, but it’s no where near as bad as the others. And I still want to see some lemmy.ml communities (tech, gaming).
But unless it’s changed with some of the recent updates, blocking instances as a user (on lemmy) only blocks posts from the instance but still allows interaction with their users in comments of posts. It’s different for kbin and mastodon.
I don’t want the annoyance of arguing with tankies from their main instances. I’d rather be defederated.
Also, why go back to lemm.ee and do that when I don’t need to on feddit.de? That seems kind of silly in the first place.
Since the last update, I don’t see the total number of upvotes and downvotes but a ratio. So when it is at 0, I see 50% which is less interesting than seeing how many people interacted. Was it me upvoting and a single downvote or is it highly controversial with 100-100? Also: in a highly downvoted comment, I want to see how...
I remember a news segment where monozygotic (identical) twins had different results for their genealogy. Their efficacy and reproducibility should definitely be questioned.
Not to mention the problem of your DNA info being sold and used for nefarious purposes. Not just by hackers, but if the company is bought out by a different organization, they don’t have to honor the terms of 23andMe or Ancestory.com regarding not selling you data.
You’ve gotta block the communities yourself. I feel your pain, but what you’re requesting isn’t going to happen.
Every time I come across an anime community, I block it. But there are so many that keep popping up…
My block list is filled with so many anime, furry, and shitposting communities. It’s a bit annoying and an uphill battle, but you’ve got to go to their communities and block them individually (but also block the anime instances).
This is one of my all time favorite PS1 games. I remember watching my older brother play it when I was like 7 years old, and then finally playing it myself in like middle school.
The cinematic graphics still blow my mind for it being a PS1 game. That transformation in the café in level 1 was so gloriously twisted. The mutant babies scurrying out from under the bed in the western town was so freaky.
Also, the guy who starved/dehydrated to death on the water tower because he was too afraid to climb back down was so heavy. That game painted such an immersive and incredible atmosphere.
He hasn’t fought a single pro boxer in his weight class.
He’s fought outside his weight class and he’s boxed fighters who were not boxers.
He has not had a single honest professional boxing match.
His fight with Mike Tyson is the going to be the closest he’s come, but it’s still absolutely ridiculous given the 30 year age gap and the fact that Mike Tyson has been retired.
Jake piece of shit Paul has definitely trained hard and has a proficiency in boxing, but he hasn’t come close to putting that to the test fighting active pros in his weight class.
I really don’t lie. Unless it’s for safety or a white lie not to hurt someone’s feelings, I don’t feel the need to stoop to lying.
I accept my faults and I’ll admit wrongdoing before I lie. I’m not concerned with what other people think of me, so I speak my truth even if it will drive others away from me. If that happens, they aren’t the kind of people I want to associate with anyway.
I value honesty, authenticity, and empathy and hold myself strictly to the standards I’ve set in my mind and personal philosophy.
I don’t lie or say anything on the internet that I wouldn’t say in real life. I can’t personally comprehend the point or drive to lie on the internet. I’d rather focus effort on self-actualization rather than make-believe.
