How many years into pairing were you before you began to understand that pairing was an actual skill, requiring technique, and practice, and learning, and not a universal attribute of all human programmers?

How much alone time vs socializing do you need?

For me there are a few people who are usually equalizing, and I can just be around them, so I won't count that. But generally, I find about 3 times a week, I'm game for socializing. A day in between to rest is usually nice, but the larger the gathering or if we go somewhere particularly noisy or I'm meeting new people that involves more effort, and my social battery empties sooner. I'm very curious where everyone else falls on this!

@RickiTarr Although I am on social media (here and slack and chat) 16 hours a day interacting with my network of friends, I socialize very little irl. Once a month or so, Virginia and I will go out to (outdoor) dinner with her or my besties.

Even when I do socialize irl, I can't handle being with more than maybe 4-5 other people, even my beloved family. (They forgive me, and seek me out separately from to time for good encounters.)

I hoard my quiet alone time every day.

I think that "neurotypical" is way less common than people think. I think the world is quite full of people who pass, because both the neurotypical and the neuro diverse believe in a "normal" that is not.

Three interesting things about the horizon game franchise. 1) It is graphically stunning. Many of the live-action scenes are fucking beautiful. My favorite is the forest areas.

  1. The plot is amazingly coherent and amazingly intricate. So many continuity questions with slowly building answers. (It's an open world, with lots of missions that don't affect the story line, and tons and tons of things to explore and discover.)

  1. In general, all the most important characters, including the protagonist, are women. It's not women-against-the-men, there are plenty of good and decent men, but it's the women who are all brave badasses.

I am playing on Normal difficulty, but in a way that actually resembles playing on Story difficulty: I am way OP. I have carefully farmed and done easy job after easy job to build myself up so I'm 10-15 levels higher than any of the missions I'll take on.

There are some black marks, too, don't get me wrong. On a PC w/o a controller, the bindings, as with so many games, are asdf, and they run out of keys to the left, so one is constantly having to tap ctrl and shift, which is not something regular human hands can do.

I will be totally okay if asdf just dies as the central gaming-keyboard arrangement.

Further, like all modern games, the developers are way too proud of their vision-reducing particle effects and light dynamics.

"Oh, it's so realistic, I can't see anything!"

That's meant to be far more rare than it is.

And finally, and again, like most modern story-rich RPGs, the stealth path is only 90% there. You can stealth and stealth and stealth, until you have the whole stealth tree filled out, but you're still gonna have to fight most bosses in a 50m round flat space.

Still, two thumbs up, way up.

Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West are absolutely amazing and delightful games to play, if you're into story-rich RPG.

The truth is, the series so far is basically an immense science fiction plot rendered to a screen.

It's up there with Plague Tales and Days Gone in terms of its character development and its intricate and satisfying plot and side missions.

@CaseyL @GottaLaff Good question, I don't know, but I suspect it's because removing a judge feels like a very big step to them, even tho they've spanked that judge twice.
