Grading. I hate it. Big, summative assessments. I don't hate the process of grading - I hate the deep sense of failure that comes as I look at ALL THESE KIDS WHO HAVE FORGOTTEN THE BASICS OF MATHEMATICS.
It's that time of year when I question whether I would do more good to society cutting verges or packing shelves in the local Aldi.
@GinevraCat I think the problem is that universities overestimate what kids need at uni. Most of them don't have those skills anyway, they just sat down and barfed some stuff out on a test. (This was definitely me - I am an OUTSTANDING test-taker. It got me a free ride to university. But I still didn't learn to study until I was 26.)
@GinevraCat Exactly. Worst of all, she can take 20 practice tests and know how to take those tests, and then when she takes the real one, she still can't follow those instructions on the day.
Which has little in common with what she needs to learn. It frustrates me no end.
Also, is anyone else getting an "eye headache" lately? Basically like a sinus headache, mostly on one side, with a bonus pain like you're being stabbed through one eye?
Does anyone else have the problem that only their fingers remember their passwords properly?
So I'm fine on a normal keyboard, but as soon as I have to enter them in a phone or mobile device I'm screwed! #MuscleMemory
"Our team has suffered from influenza" - our staff bulletin
I call bullshit!! Covid is really high in the Netherlands at the moment, in fact, the sewage water figures for this week are higher than for the corresponding week in any previous year. So guess what, folks - it's probably COVID. Just say that!!
Yes it wouldโฆ the โcopies per personโ measure was introduced when the province took this over from the unis. Itโs a measure that can not be compared to the previous 2 years of data, and the calculation to arrive at it is opaque, which may or may not be deliberate.
Did a little digging. It's my general understanding that if it was actually shown in the mL like the other viruses it would be almost orders of magnitude greater. And reporting in this vague per person makes it look more comparable on the graphs. But this is definitely not my field, except to know that comparing graphs with differing x or y axis gets murky.
My arm is soooooore. Had a COVID booster on Friday, the first one that I've had after a COVID infection (in February this year). And, wow! My body has mounted a serious defense. Sore arm, 5cm diameter hot, red bump over the jab area. Lymph nodes getting in on the action.
None of my pre-infection vaccinations did this. Wondering if it's related or just my body doing it's own jolly thing.
@MsHearthWitch My mom and husband got theirs recently too, but nothing. Although my mom has the buffed immune system of a retired junior primary teacher. Nothing phases it!
I was a complete idiot this morning. Checked my phone as I woke up, clicked on a phishing text message and merrily entered my credit card and address info into a dodgy site.
Now I have had to cancel my card. They didn't get any money though. Small mercies.
I can never remember what packages are meant to arrive, so when I get a msg from "DHL" I just assume I forgot about one. Le sigh
@Tattooed_mummy I blocked the card almost instantly. It's just a pain and I feel very stupid. Fortunately, when they asked for credit card limit (another red flag I ignored), I entered โฌ5. So I probably didn't look like a high value target after that.
I am overloaded at work and not sure how to prioritise and /or cut down. Also, the sleep deprivation from getting up early to start at 8:15 each day is starting to hit me physically again, cold sores and joint pain ahoy.
I realised Iโm overloaded because I no longer feel any urgency or interest in much. Hmmmm.
@GinevraCat This is really the worst. If you present on a good day, or you've worked really hard to organise things so that you can explain yourself if you are having a BAD day, it works against you.
Like, people are listening to me now because I'm fully broken and I want to scream "WHERE WERE YOU THREE YEARS AGO WHEN I WAS TELLING YOU I WAS BREAKING?"
Ah, right, I still had the power of clear speech then and didn't look like I was a mess, so they ignored me.
I PASSED!!!! I can legally drive again. I feel SO relieved. (Context- I immigrated 3 years ago and could not switch my license).
The last week has been a nightmare of nerves and stomach cramps but now it's done, Done, DONE!!! #NewAdventures#Adulting
