One disappointment in this age of rapid media consumption is the diminishing allowance for mystery in longform storytelling.

If something raises a question that isn’t immediately answered, it’s hailed as a mistake rather than something to ponder.

Ambiguity is good sometimes.

A huge thank you to Milam and Greene Whiskey for this amazing care package!

Their very small batch bourbon and straight rye whiskey are complex, expansive, and genuinely delicious.

Also, a bonus CD from Texas band MISTER DATA, replete with a track called “‘Measure of a Man”!

@lizbarr Very much so! I have a fairly robust collection that keeps growing. That whiskey looks great!

The gradual erosion of consensus reality is, quite literally and without exaggeration, planting the seeds for the end of civilization as we know it.

Anyway, happy Friday!

GoodAaron,
@GoodAaron@mastodon.social avatar

@mjgardner @lisamelton I suppose I am using the term “consensus reality” in a purely practical manner — i.e. that regardless of differences of opinion, politics, and religion, there are a few fundamental things the vast majority of humans can agree upon to function as a society.

Things like “the earth is round,” “the President is alive,” and “I saw it happen so that is evidence it’s true” used to be relatively unchallenged outside the fringe.

Not so much anymore.

GoodAaron,
@GoodAaron@mastodon.social avatar

@mjgardner @GoodAaron @lisamelton There’s no question the philosophical underpinnings that shake our perceptions of the material world set the stage for this.

Creativity does not start from nothing.

You are a confluence of your past, your loves, your grievances.

What moves you, angers you, terrifies you.

The books you’ve read, the films you’ve watched — even if you defy them, they are influences.

Allow yourself to be inspired.

The biggest thing to remember, especially in today’s media landscape, is what William Goldman told us years ago.

“Nobody knows anything.”

If they knew with certainty how much money any project will make, then every one would be a hit.

Humans are fickle and beautiful that way.

I’m endlessly fascinated with the effects of recency bias, expectation bias, and nostalgia bias on how we consume popular culture.

Doubly so, with how those feelings shift over time as new generations have different experiences with the same art, less affected by one or another.

Today’s the day! The new romance anthology from DC Comics, HOW TO LOSE A GUY GARDNER IN 10 DAYS, is on the shelves now for Valentines Day.

My story, “Robots Are Red, Androids Are Blue” is a bittersweet tale of love in the time of AI.

Pick up a copy at your local comic shop!

I am delighted to see my addition of “Bat-GPT” to DC Comics canon is making a bit of a stir. https://www.superherohype.com/comics/566129-batman-seemingly-jumps-on-the-ai-bandwagon/amp

“Robots Are Red, Androids Are Blue” was written by me, with art by the incredible Ivan Shavrin and edited by the brilliant and generous Katie Kubert.

Extremely grateful to DC Comics for letting me play in their superhero sandbox again.

I just realized that the phrase “dilly dally” is probably derived from “dilatory,” meaning slow to act.

Both are related to “dilation”, specifically time dilation.

(watching TNG's "Contagion")

Tonight's fun fact: Carolyn Seymour guest starred as Romulan Commander Taris. She would return to guest starred several more times in the franchise as Mirasta Yale (TNG's "First Contact"), Romulan Commander Toreth in TNG's "Face of the Enemy" and Mrs. Templeton on VOY.

Hey y’all! As I diversify beyond the ex-Bird App, I’m trying to expand my reach to keep folks up to date with the latest.

I’m tantalizingly close to 1,000 on Mastodon. Could I trouble you for a boost from the community to follow me here?

GoodAaron,

@WanderingTaoist I’m not really “chasing clout.” Creators in today’s crowded TV landscape with limited budgets are given the duty to promote their own shows. It’s literally a requirement for the success of said shows.

It’s heartening to see longtime fans sincerely wish for something they want to see in , and the replies are filled with kind recommendations to watch animated Star Trek shows where they have already done it.

Keep spreading the word!

Animation is a medium, not a genre.
