It's sort of a broader sociological Milkshake Duck thing. Remember when everybody LOVED that Paula Deen chef woman because she's was all folksy and said what a bunch of white people wanted to hear, which was basically like put butter and lard in everything you consume, and she built a whole Paula Deen multidsiciplinary franchise and gave an interview and said "Oh wouldn't it just be swell to do chattel slavery again?"

And some people were like "whoa!" but I think that's the wrong reaction. Anymore, I think that's what you should expect from that person.

I def want to see Furiosa but I am also weirdly emotionally conflicted about seeing Furiosa because how do you, as George Miller, presume to do a prequel to hands-down the greatest film ever made that you, George Miller, also made, and if it is even possible to top Fury Road and you manage to do that, am I going to die in my theater seat because you have done some kind of transcendent thing that bends space/time?

I was looking for the first review of Fury Road I saw after seeing Fury Road, but I don't remember who it was and can't find it anymore, but I remember it resonating with me because at one point the reviewer said something like "Fuck every other moviemaker alive for not making this movie and every other movie for not being this movie" and gave it 100 stars out of 5. And I thought that was fair.

If this suggests some conflict on my part to the non-hoopnerds, there is no conflict. The implicit thing here is we are in the zenith of basketball, even if I no longer have a rooting interest. That in and of itself is merits going to the bar and enjoying The Basketball and also pints on a tornado-y Tuesday in May.

By the way, maybe a super-cool time to go to a bar is during a big storm because, in here right now, it's like this weird smattering of regulars and people who just kind of traipsed in here because they were walking home and THIS place was open, so there's definitely a vibe of what if a neighborhood bar was also where a shipwreck happened, and - AND - there's a miniature collie in one of the booths.
