This is like your meth dealer insulting your dental hygiene. Still, it’s better than nothing. The timing of this sudden pivot is interesting and makes me wonder if it’s really about ethics, but whatever gets Palestinians some relief from this nightmare situation is a step forward.
It gets better - the real estate event the protestors were almost certainly there to oppose is said to involve selling West Bank settlement homes (which are illegal under international law). The source for this allegation is this 2-minute video of a Jewish man outing his community at a town meeting for illegal sales of property. For transparency’s sake, I have not been able to independently verify that man’s claims. You can see the events listed here on Home In Israel’s site, both in Teaneck, New Jersey (which the video is about), and another event scheduled for the 7th in Thornhill, Toronto, Ont (where OP’s story comes from). I wonder if we’ll hear about more protests in the other cities.
Honestly, just because I’m new here and most of the image is swearing so I wanted to be careful. I know I probably could have left it, but I decided it wasn’t that big a deal to check the box to be sure.
“Israel is not sending a delegation to Cairo for talks on a deal for a ceasefire and release of hostages from Gaza, an Israeli official told CNN Sunday.”
“Another diplomatic source played down the prospects of an imminent deal, saying progress was slow and it was unlikely there would be a breakthrough within the next 48 hours.”
Leopards, faces, etc. There are multiple instances of people cheering on their own abuse. E.g. the thousands of women who protested against women’s right to vote. Often their reasons, like those given for homophobia, revolved around “traditional family values” and “the natural order”.
Plus loyalty has not proven to be a guarantee of support from Trump or MAGA. Given how many Trump supporters are now in prison or other legal trouble, it’s odd that anyone thinks they’ll be the exception due to blind loyalty.
Society shouldn’t be set up to keep people renting for their entire lives. It was like 3 generations ago that you could realistically get a home in your 30’s on a single paycheck.
I’ve got a backpack that’s falling apart after less than a year and was looking for a much better one that will hold up well. Specifically, the use case is dragging food home from grocery stores or dragging cards in plastic boxes/board games around at best…
My sister bought me a Gregory backpack for my birthday three years ago (it’s one of their 60 sizes). During spring/summer/fall I use it several times weekly when I hike to-and-from the gym, and it’s still in like-new condition after hundreds of uses. I really like the straps across the chest and hips to help distribute weight across my torso. Problem is they aren’t cheap, but they aren’t cheaply made either and mine includes features like a detachable smaller pack for when you don’t need the whole huge space. Depending on your budget, they may fit your needs and you may not need to splurge on one of their largest models like my sister did.
I am not a lawyer, but would such a contract be enforceable? To my untrained eye this has a lot of similarity to the unenforceable NDAs I keep on hearing about when people try to bully others into being quiet about crimes.
Netanyahu does not want lasting peace because the moment this war is done so is his political career. Even if his Likud party survives (and given the recent far-right/religious victories in Israeli municipal elections that’s a possibility), he’s very unpopular. As early as last November Biden was telling Netanyahu his days were numbered and to prepare the lessons he wanted passed on to any successor.
She’s probably shocked to her core that white Republicans had to suffer the consequences of cultivating MAGA extremist hatred. Violence is only supposed to happen to brown people and LGBTQ+.

Political parties aren’t families or sports teams, and people aren’t traitors for leaving if there’s a failure of ethics and/or accountability. The attitude that you vote with a particular brand no matter what is how the USA has ended up with a two-party system and unpopular candidates. Democracy is supposed to be rule by the people via elected officials that actually represent them.
Both major parties are getting really nervous about losing support, and as a result they’re getting very aggressive. Republicans have their RINO label (Republican In Name Only) to shame people, and now that attitude is appearing on the other side in response to Democrat fears about the next election. I REALLY don’t want to see Trump re-elected - I don’t think he should even be allowed to run given his recent insurrectionist/criminal activities. But I also don’t want any politician to be so comfortable that they feel they can do whatever they want and keep power.
“Though there are no official figures from Russia on how many citizens left, research by Prague Process, an organization focused on migration research and process, estimated that 700,000 to 1.2 million Russians left in the first year of the conflict.
In a recent report on the impact of this exodus on Russia’s workforce, Russian researcher and economist Vladislav Inozemtsev arrived at a similar figure, saying at least 1.3 million Russians have left.”
You say that as if a cat would ever feel guilty or embarrassed. If my cat was looking at me like that it would mean, “Yeah, I was playing with the blinds, and I will again unless you’re more interesting.”
The only good thing about the Israeli social media mockery and celebration is that they are providing a whole lot of documentation of their cruelty and disregard for human life. When, years from now, they try to say it wasn’t that bad the world will have tons of self-incriminating evidence.
TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rebuked a top Cabinet minister heading to Washington on Sunday for talks with U.S. officials, according to an Israeli official, signaling widening cracks within the country’s leadership nearly five months into its war with Hamas....
It’s undeniable that Netanyahu needs to go, but he’s not the only war criminal in his government. It’s good to hear Netanyahu is opposed and disobeyed internally, but I’m not willing to cheer for anyone on his war cabinet to replace him without very good reasons. When Hitler died in WW2, the world didn’t just let the next most senior Nazi take over.
North American Christian Conservatives are taking notes. I’ve heard family members pray things like, “God laws supersede man’s laws” and “God, remind people that you don’t just save, you also punish. People need to fear God again”. Israel is serving as a preview of what happens when your country tolerates religion in politics.
I’m still in my 20s, but as of a few years ago I started forgetting what’s my exact age. I always have to stop and recalculate it each time someone asks me. I get asked fairly infrequently, but when I do it’s a bit weird/embarrassing that I have to say “wait, let me calculate”. (I know when I was born, of course.)...
I wouldn’t say I frequently forget my age, but it happens. It’s only worrying if you can’t calculate it on demand. For what it’s worth, after your late 20’s or so you’re basically the same person mentally and what changes are details like how much a day spent working in an office chair screws up your neck and back.
