Most companies I’ve worked at where employees had a Microsoft work computers. They were under heavy control, even with admin privileges. I was wondering, for a corporate environment, how employees’Linux desktops could be kept under control in a similar way. What would be an open source or Linux based alternative to the...
Linux noob here... But aren't there user types? Like admin with install permissions and user type without ? Doesn't that take care of most of your questions?
Currently studying for an exam tomorrow, and I now realize why I’m always so sleepy in class: the prof. speaks sooo sloowllyy with pauses - in-between - most words. I can’t keep focused because of that; thankfully, he has narrated powerpoints that I can download and watch… at 3x normal speed. Which is nice because a 37...
Musk is a drag on the company. But an electric car for 33k is what we needed. Especially when the rebates are turning into at-dealer discounts instead of waiting for a year.
If all of your supporters think vaccines cause diseases, if you're elected you're going to need to satisfy them by acting on those beliefs.
I think, in the abstract, you're right - having any sort of health procedure mandated by the govt is extremely problematic. However hugely communicable diseases are a big caveat to that principle, and we have been doing something about that for a long long time.
Typhoid Mary
was forcibly detained because, over and over again, she kept spreading the disease. Several different times, bird flu was halted before it could get too widespread because of govt mandated culls. Smallpox was completely eradicated because of vaccine efforts.
Imagine if in any of those cases people said 'freedom' was primary and prevented coercion for vaccines. The death and injury toll would be much higher by today, including those of the young and the immunocompromised.
The Podcasts app is just the latest product to go through a process I’ve come to call The Google Cycle. It always goes the same way: the company launches a new service with grandiose language about how this fits its mission of organizing and making accessible the world’s information, quickly updates it with a couple of neat...
Am I right that android/iOS apps require much more maintenance than PC programs? I can load up a copy of WinZip from 2000 and it would work fine, but anything that hasn't been updated in a few years might be hidden on the app store for not working with my version.
I think that's the bigger issue. Developers can't leave stuff up and just let it sit, because you need to maintain a developer acct to have anything listed, and os updates break things
It’s April and I am sweating like crazy, it fucking sucks, but it also got me wondering what can I do? There is so much conflicting advice out there, even if I tell others about this, when they ask for a solution what do I tell?
Focus on income inequality and the rest will also get addressed. Cutting out meat is good, but that doesn't matter when Elon musk decides to jet from SFO to San Jose because he doesn't like traffic.
How many landlords actually do it as a job? And how many just collect the checks and hire bottom of the barrel contractors for anything that involves work? In my experience it's been the latter.
I can get behind murder. I feel like this, to some extend, is a genuine part of human behaviour. Even the horrific aftermath of such. But genocide truly feels inhuman to me. So I can never fundamentally understand how in history, civilizations went from point A to point B to Point Genocide. Any thoughts on this?
But you're watching a genocide happen right now. You can look at the news articles now. You can read in real time people laying the case for it, including in their original language using Google translate.
60% of emissions in the area are from the refinery. The local air district isn't willing to do anything about it - they just released a plan for the area that is full of already planned commitments for other pollutant types, but has nothing other than vague goals for anything to do with the refinery.
Using gaming controllers for anything other than gaming ?
Wondering if anyone has experimented with using controllers (PS/xbox/other) to do anything other than gaming ?
