Always discovering new cool things at our . What an interesting idea: you can check out a packet for someone experiencing memory loss to help you spark memories and engage together.

Memory kits in clear plastic bags with red edges and handles. Hanging from a display in a library.

Here’s a hypothetical question not related at all to a presentation I may have gone to today. If you are an academic researcher working on modeling cyber security threats (but not working on mitigating or detecting those threats) how, ethically, do you publish your research?

Really sick of this cold.¹ Even a mild fever is a pain in the fanny, wiping me out until I remember I can take meds that will help. Ugh. I don’t remember what being sick is like anymore since the pandemic taught me better hygiene techniques and I just haven’t been sick as often. Whine whine, complain complain. This is one time being an adult stinks, no one to take care of you.

¹ No it isn’t flu or Covid. Just run of the mill virus. Really. Multiple tests. Symptoms not the same.

I am sick. Assumed spouse fed cat in morning. It’s dinner time. Offspring just sent this and no opened food in fridge. Someone is not amused at dereliction of duty.

I have no idea how any of this works, but I have a question.

Was curious to see how me blocking a domain would play out in practice. So, I blocked threads.net. Just checked and, yes, it is blocked from my account (but not on my instance).
Have not seen any posts when using the desktop interface.
But! I do see threads.net posts when using mobil app ice cubes.
Why? How? what's the point of blocking a domain if it doesn't always block the domain?
Mysterious.

Another school year starts, another time having The Conversation with my child about what to do if there’s a school shooting/ bomb threat/ armed intruder. It doesn’t get easier. Utterly infuriating in fact.

Really glad I cancelled working at the polls on Tuesday since I tested positive for Covid this morning. Had cold symptoms since Sunday evening, but negative Covid tests till this morning when I woke with pounding headache. Thought yesterday I was improving! Sigh. No idea where I contacted it, have been masked everywhere. Sigh.

Evening fantasy wormhole. Why not take a cargo freighter to Asia? Other than time, money, job, life responsibilities, it looks divine.

Went to fill a prescription of a common generic medicine I’ve taken for years and was told by the pharmacist they didn’t have it, couldn’t get it, and all suppliers were out. They called around and were able to find about half a prescriptions worth and maybe could get some sent from another store. When I asked, said they can’t keep up with all the drugs this is suddenly happening to. Yours could be next.

Time to harvest the hops! New for me this year is Mt Hood from Great Lake Hops. Brilliant smell and flavor.

Hop vine growing up a trellis on the side of a grey house covered with light green cone like fruiting structures.

Have lived in Connecticut for almost 24 years. Still taken aback by the 169 towns (and jurisdictions) packed into this tiny area. Last week got Ellington and Enfield mixed up resulting in a 30 min longer drive. Today just realized East Hampton, which is just north of Haddam and East Haddam, is west and south, by some way, of Hampton. Not to be confused with Hamden, nowhere near. Also, make sure you know if you are going to Plainville or Plainfield (2/3 of the state apart).

Just got an email from a local greenhouse that fuel costs are too high so they are giving away all their remaining houseplants this weekend and shutting down for two months.

Do I need more plants? Do I??

Very satisfying to work today as an official in US. Light turn out for our first day ever of early voting. Great to discuss with the registrars of voters (during the lulls when no voters were present) ways barriers to voting could be reduced and real process challenges that make change difficult.

And, early voters get a special sticker !

Well, I did get the slides done, but missed the fellowship of . It was satisfying though, to read through a project report from a few years ago and realize even when I first started at the institute and didn’t think I knew very much, my work was right on, and subsequent legislative policy flowed from those recommendations (or at least we were all on the same page, had the same ideas, etc.)
