IrateAnteater,

The exploding spaceships isn’t really a problem. That’s kind of the intention of the testing process. The way NASA does things, where everything is meticulously tested and nothing can fail ever, works, but it’s slower and more expensive. Destructive testing is faster, and has the benefit of possibly revealing failure modes you didn’t forsee.

Linus Tech Tips (LTT) release investigation results on former accusations (x.com)

There were a series of accusations about our company last August from a former employee. Immediately following these accusations, LMG hired Roper Greyell - a large Vancouver-based law firm specializing in labor and employment law, to conduct a third-party investigation. Their website describes them as “one of the largest...

IrateAnteater,

Yes and no. The reason companies are hiring them is for the image of impartiality they bring. If your firm gets a reputation for just always siding with the company, regardless of what actually happened, that image gets destroyed.

Plus, I’m willing to bet that there’s not a whole lot of recurring business from individual companies for this type of service. That would kind of defeat the purpose of being the “neutral third party”.

IrateAnteater,

It wasn’t so much “not mind” as it was “put up with” since there was no real alternative for the average person. Also, there’s the remarkable ability of the human brain to filter out inputs it deems unnecessary. Bad smells that are a constant presence end up being filtered out.

IrateAnteater,

Considering that publicly funded (or royalty funded, which amounts to basically the same thing in feudal systems) sports has been a thing across all civilizations for all of history, I doubt the future people will blink an eye.

IrateAnteater,

And that’s the moment where your real friends will let you know that it’s time to take a break.

IrateAnteater,

So teens are all going to be responsible and not just go to bed an hour later?

IrateAnteater,

It says right there why a person might want to check it out: recipes.

IrateAnteater,

I’d be perfectly fine with banning Facebook too. In fact, let’s just make the behavior itself illegal, regardless which site engages in it.

While we’re at it, let’s do something really fun, like making corporate board members legally responsible for their companies actions.

This type of stuff will take forever to get into law, so in the meantime, TikTok can fuck off.

IrateAnteater,

People put far too much emphasis on hypocrisy. Being a hypocrite has nothing to do with whether you are right or wrong.

If a murderer says “murdering is wrong”, does him being a hypocrite make that statement any less true?

IrateAnteater,

They should all be worshipped privately

Pretty sure the bible specifically mentions that too.

IrateAnteater,

Do you have your fans controlled by the bios or a fan controller?

IrateAnteater,

I was thinking about desktops, where the fan would be physically plugged into a fan controller instead of into the motherboard. Not sure what that would look like with a laptop.

I was mainly asking because some of those fan controllers default to full on when the usb connection is absent, and Windows doesn’t enable all usb connections until after the user logs into the system.

IrateAnteater,

Normally, I can kind of get a feel for what the sovcit is misinterpreting and how they think things work. This one just makes zero sense. I can’t figure out what they are talking about.

IrateAnteater,

The analogy kind of falls apart since she is not limited to this guy and Chad. She’s free to choose nothing at all. With Trump vs Biden, there’s no viable third option, and having no president is not one of the options. So the “Trump is worse” argument becomes viable simply because you do have to choose one of them.

IrateAnteater,

That analogy was flawed from the start and doesn’t apply to anything. Stop using it, and stop even thinking about it.

With the current election, there are two choices, and only two choices. That is the reality you have to work with. We know that x number of Republican voters are going to turn out no matter what. So by not voting, you aren’t making any kind of moral stand. You are just deciding to let the greater of two evils win.

IrateAnteater,

For the shoplifting thing, it depends which store it is. Big chain grocery store? Yeah, I couldn’t care less what someone takes. Small single owner shop? Fuck you for stealing from that guy. Those stores struggle enough just trying to compete with the Walmarts of the world.

IrateAnteater,

Also, I sincerely doubt that the city would have enough busses to carry the whole population simultaneously (it would never really make sense to have that many busses), and in this case, the nearest population center is a four hour drive away.

Although, if there were a high speed rail link between Fort McMurray and Edmonton, that would take a lot of pressure off.

IrateAnteater,

I don’t care what system you implement, staying alive is going to require labour. We’re nowhere near utopian sci-fi style post scarcity yet.

IrateAnteater,

You must have learned a different definition for “utopian” and are very much stretching the definition of “post scarcity”. We ain’t there yet, and aren’t going to be for the foreseeable future.

As for the first paragraph, the vast majority of western society doesn’t work that way. There are a few major examples in the US that do (Amazon comes to mind) that are rightfully criticized for it (although I wish the criticism came with a side of actual consequences).

IrateAnteater,

Yeah, but I did. You can’t just ignore individual words and respond to something I didn’t even say.

IrateAnteater,

I can’t even fathom how much water it would take to put out 8 sq km of fire.

IrateAnteater,

If the number 100 takes you appreciably longer to process than 60, you probably aren’t qualified to be driving anyway.

IrateAnteater,

Unless you bought the game in one of the countries where you can’t sign up for a PlayStation account, then you can just go fuck yourself.
