Happy from Derry Girl, who is on the deck demonstrating how scary her tongue is.

@dkluft

Their tongue are incredibly rough! My cat will often groom my hands if she's lying on the bed and I put my hand on her. The tongue is like sandpaper.

I'm awake early but I also went to bed early last evening. Somehow after the bike ride and then eating early dinner right after that, I just felt myself getting sleepy and sleepier. So about 5 PM I checked my blood sugar to make sure it was looking proper and it was, so I got in pajamas and got in bed and soon fell asleep.

That's just listening to what my body is telling me. I needed sleep and still need more sleep than most other people.

Of I course I won't actually eat cat treats and Ginza loves them and I don't want to take away from her supply of joy in a crinkly bag, but I am thinking of buying a gluten free frozen pizza this weekend and treat myself to a reward sort of meal -- easy to prepare, hardly any cleanup, and of course the wondrous joy of hot gooey cheese and tomato sauce upon a bread type of crust.

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

Ginza fang and toe beans.

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

Here's a pic of the best cat in the world, Ginza. Her head and face are blurry because she was squirming around and happy about being paid attention too, as she certainly deserves.

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

I'm so hungry today. I've been stuffing my face much of the morning and I'm thinking of trying cat treats for my own self.

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

Chilly and damp as it is so often here. Heating up my second breakfast now to get calories and nutrients in me, along with the pleasant sensation of warm food down in the belly.

IzabelaKaramia,

I woke up once during the overnight and of course Ginza was tucked in against me. She's become a much, I don't know, clingier sleeping buddy than Brinkley was. Brinkley always tended to stay down near my feet though he would sometimes sleep up near my shoulders.

Ginza for the first months that she began sleeping inside would stay down near the feet, but now it's guaranteed that she sleeps near my stomach or back.

I still feel a sense that I could get sleepy

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

Huh, I just realized that I haven't thought any about the idea of Ginza's birthday. Never picked up any info from neighborhood historians about a time around when she might have been born.

She deserves a birthday, a day to celebrate her entry into the world.

But what date should I choose?

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

Ginza just scent-marked my bicycle helmet. Guess she wants to make sure that everyone knows I'm her human when I go out cycling in the world.

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

much like I did yesterday, where it comes on fast and irresistible. So I need to be careful about pacing myself through the work hours.

But the physical body feels pretty good. I feel so much stronger than 6 weeks ago.

I also feel hungry. Definitely is going to be a 4 meal day. I need to eat and get nutrients in me and rebuild strength.

And work on that goal of getting me running again.

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

The weather forecast for today and the holiday weekend is meh at best. Cloudy with chance of showers today, tomorrow, and Sunday. Perhaps mostly cloudy for Monday. Meh.

Meh meh meh.

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

Took a 3 hour nap immediately after clocking out and closing up the work computer. It's a rare thing for me to fall asleep swiftly, I did that last evening and then this afternoon, so it's a sign that I need sleep. Sleep is important for physical, mental, and emotional health.

Gonna make a small pot of decaf tea and will probably get back in bed again in about an hour and try to sleep in until 6 tomorrow morning. Assess how I feel then. Hopefully I will feel alert and get physical activity.

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

@ninetiger

It'd be interesting to see if she would like that if I felt I had a good safe means of doing that with her.

Would she like it? Maybe, maybe not.

She showed off with a big jump this morning as I was getting out of bed. She had gone up near the pillows and was hemmed in by me and my legs and the dresser next to the bed. She wanted to go check her food dishes so she leapt over my thighs and out on to the floor. Spring powered.

Earlier in the week I tooted about recovery and sleep and making this week a step back week. Tooted about taking a zero day and I did that on Tuesday.

I've decided to take a zero day today too. Not because of a sense of physical fatigue in the body, but just how sleepy I'm getting. Pretty sure if I dove into bed right now I'd fall asleep almost immediately. That's rare for me. I did it last evening.

I need sleep. I need to listen to that.

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

I'm still sleepy. Physically the body feels good but my brain and head are having trouble resisting the idea of joining Ginza who is napping on the bed.

I feel sleepy enough that if I do a bicycle ride after work, it's gonna be slow, short, and easy, only around 30 to 40 minutes.

Somehow right now I need sleep, lots of sleep.

Awake. I've had breakfast and fed Ginza hers. Yesterday was a solid 4 meal day and I was able to walk and cycle.

Forecast calls for partly cloudy skies this afternoon and more sunshine than yesterday. We might reach 65F. I'd like to see the 70s again sometime, PNW. You ever heard of decent weather along those lines?

Dreamed last night I had moved to a new apartment and there were multiple cats in it but I couldn't find Ginza and I was getting upset. But when I woke up, she was sleeping

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

Sunshine was strong enough it helped to warm things up to make the ride much more pleasant than the prior day. I went 10.9 miles and did that in the bike's biggest gear. I feel like it's a good way to help me build leg strength on the rides near home on the flat terrain.

I can do hill climbs on the weekend.

@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

Didn't sleep as late as I had hoped, but yesterday's 3 hour nap after work plus 9 hours last night has probably helped a lot. I don't think I'll get ambushed by irresistible sleepiness today.

OTOH, this weather continues to be meh and miserable in my opinion.

Ginza was quite bouncy at first this morning, but I fed her breakfast about half an hour ago and now she's happily snoozing on the bed and digesting her food with a good nap. Smart kitty.

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

I was in a good situation with the blood sugar and the weather being relatively dry, but it was still very damp and very chilly to do that 35 minute bike ride.

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

and the cassette as well. I don't know what the bike's history of maintenance is like, but it's a good idea to figure out what condition its parts are in and improve what needs improving. That'll likely make riding it more pleasant and make it faster too.

It's gonna get a lot of use in the next few months, I know that, so let's do it right.

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

Have to run errands today and do some batch cooking. But with it being a day off and hopefully weather not too miserable this afternoon, I will take a bicycle ride and walk and get stimulus I need to grow stronger and better cardio fitness.

I've had 2 zero days this week but I'm confident those were beneficial for me and where I am in this stage of recovery. The best medical information I've been able to find about recovering from long term magnesium deficiency says it takes 10 months

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

I definitely feel more energetic today and physically I feel well rested after not walking or cycling yesterday.

It's taken a long time, but the years of constant fatigue and nutritional deficiency have taught me good lessons about taking care of myself.

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

because it's a gradual process with the need to eat well but also add in magnesium supplementation. You can only supplement so much a day, extra just gets pissed away and is probably hard on the kidneys to be filtering that much magnesium out of the blood.

Thus a gradual process.

I did learn some about bike maintenance yesterday and today I want to take time to measure the chain that's on the bike and examine the cassette.

It's a good chance that the chain needs replacing

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

I showered which felt nice, as I hadn't showered since Wednesday. Plus I didn't shave yesterday, but in the shower I did a cursory shave of the facial stubble. I'll use the sink and mirror later to do a good close shave.

If I had more resources, I'd love to get electrolysis to wipe out the facial hair I still have.
