I’m just playing with this. It’s a bit abstract. It’s the Superstition Mountains near Phoenix, Arizona and shows a few saguaro cactus growing in the foreground. Colors: Ultramarine, Teal, Quin Rose, Spring Green, Burnt Sienna, Paynes Grey. Brushes: hake, rigger. #watercolor #watercolour #art #MastoArt

Fun with wet in wet. Again I followed the method I learned from mattangelldesigns on Instagram. Today, I used all M. Graham paints and found they gave me really bright colors, wet in wet. Colors: Ultramarine, Quin Rose, Raw Sienna, Burnt Sienna, Soring Green, Paynes Grey. Brushes: hake, rigger.

I painted this today using three layers of wash. For the first wash, I used a hake; after that I used a rigger. Colors: Ultramarine, Alizarin, Hansa, Green Gold, Burnt Sienna, Paynes Grey. Brushes: hake, rigger.

More experimentation. The sail consists of two triangles of masking tape, placed using a tweezer. The sandy texture is Raw Sienna and Burnt Sienna shaved onto a wet wash using a nail file. The grasses were carved out of a wet wash using a plastic card. Colors: Ultramarine, Cobalt Teal, Alizarin, Raw Sienna, Burnt Sienna. Brushes: hake, 6, plastic card.

Today’s fun. I’m still using the technique I learned from mattangelldesigns on Instagram. I did a quick background wash using a small hake. When dry, I added details using a small Chinese script brush. Colors: Ultramarine, Alizarin, Rich Green Gold, Raw Sienna, Burnt Sienna, Paynes Grey.

I’m trying a new style, more abstract. This lesson is from mattangelldesigns on Instagram. It was fast and fun. Colors: Ultramarine, Raw Sienna, Burnt Sienna, Quin Rose. Brushes: 8, rigger.

The Sonoran Desert west of Tucson. It’s a place to love carefully because it can kill. Colors: Ultramarine Blue, Quin Rose, Quin Gold, Raw Sienna, Burnt Sienna. I made the desert green with UM + QG + BS. Brushes: hake, 6.

I’ve repainted this scene many times. I first learned it from a tutorial by Allan Kirk “Across the Moor.” In this variation, I’ve depicted a scene from our Kanas prairie, the Flint Hills, which is home to a large number of cattle ranches. Colors: Ultramarine Blue, Scarlet Lake, Hansa, Raw Sienna, Burnt Sienna, Green Gold. Brushes: hake, 6, fan, rigger. Enjoy!

I wanted to try a different kind of sky and found this in a tutorial by herendbrush_official on Instagram. After making the sky, I just played. I like small brushes because they help me make texture and the hake because it makes good grassy areas. Colors: Ultramarine Blue, Scarlet Lake, Quin Gold, Raw Sienna. Brushes: hake, 1/4” flat, rigger.

I experimented today. I spritzed the mountain area then used a fan brush to drop in color, tap, and/or slide. After the painting dried, I spritzed it again. Anyway, it was fun, and that’s the point! Colors: Ultramarine Blue, Quin Rose, Burnt Sienna. Brushes: wash, fan, rigger. Enjoy!

I tried a different sky in this desert scene. I painted a blue triangle then added various colors of clouds to the edges. Colors: Ultramarine Blue, Scarlet Lake, Hansa, Quin Gold, Green Gold, Raw Sienna, Burnt Sienna. Brushes: quill, rigger.

Today’s fun. I painted a loose sky/background. After it dried, I planned a scene to go with it. Colors: Ultramarine Blue, Cobalt Blue, Scarlet Lake, Alizarin, Raw Sienna, Burnt Sienna, Green Gold. Brushes: hake, 6, rigger, fan. Enjoy!

I experimented with a vertical background on this piece, and of course, it’s more practice with trees and grass. Colors: Ultramarine Blue, Cobalt Blue, Cobalt Teal, Green Gold, Burnt Sienna. Brushes: wash, 6, comb, rigger.

This is another quick painting inspired by a short tutorial from katiewhiteartist on Instagram. I wet both sides of the paper then dropped in almost pure color. I tilted the paper a little. Colors: Cobalt Blue, Scarlet Lake, Hansa, Sap Green, Burnt Sienna. Brushes: quill, rigger, plastic card.

This is a variation on my canoe painting, different color scheme, different brush strokes. Colors: Ultramarine, Teal, Alizarin, Rich Green Gold, Burnt Sienna. Brushes, wash, 6, 2, dagger, rigger.

I painted this little scene today and tried mixing colors on the painting itself. That’s easier to see in the background trees, where I painted a line of Ultramarine then dripped Burnt Sienna into it. Colors: Ultramarine, Cobalt Teal, Rich Green Gold, Quin Gold, Burnt Sienna. Brushes: wash, 6, rigger. Anyway, it was fun and I learned something.

I try to practice every day. Today I used very traditional colors: Ultramarine, Raw Sienna, Burnt Sienna. Brushes: wash, 6, 2, rigger.

This is my attempt at painting Table Mountain near Tucson, Arizona. The rocks are many colors when viewed up close, so I pushed the painting a bit. Vegetation crawls up the mountain and thrives on its flat top. Colors: Ultramarine, Alizarin, Rich Green Gold, Quin Gold, Burnt Sienna. Brushes: wash, rigger.

I’ve been fighting with greens so in this picture, I added alizarin. Instead of making pure greens, I made some purples, some grays, some browns and some greens. Colors: Ultramarine, Alizarin, Raw Sienna, Burnt Sienna, and Rich Green Gold. Brushes: hake, 6, 2.
