@maralorn yeahhh I have git in my prompt and for some queries in nixpkgs it took about a second or so to render which is way longer then my tolerance for prompt latency. I guess you don't have that problem with jj?

After all the nix drama in the last few weeks I'm finally able to relax a bit again. I don't think I was as calm as now for like the last three months or so. I'm still stressed but not in the emergency everything is on fire at once kind of way.

What sucks a lot about the whole situation is that the nixcon na and nixcon eu teams are different people and the people currently planning nixcon eu were not involved with the sponsorship decisions for nixcon na but everyone (understandably) now thinks that we repeated the mistake..

@jakehamilton one day nix will get a versioned language spec and on top of that we can then build tooling and standards like other more grown up languages do. For example rust-analyzer which is the official rust-lsp just tells you what casing to use. And if we get a versioned language spec we can also start phasing out things like url-literals, path-literals not starting with one of "/" "./" "~/", allowing lf, crlf and cr as line endings and many more things :)

I really thought I had an answer to my testing problem in the nixosTest framework, but it seems you can't get internet access easily to those tests :/

I think I'll stop up-streaming every module/package I write to since I just don't always have the energy it takes to go through the review process and doing stuff the proper not hacky way. I like my stuff being reviewed because it helps find potential issues and also gives the opportunity of learning new/advanced things and also how to simplify stuff but this process can also be very time consuming/energy draining.

@koen that would help with finding energy to do so since it would mean I could drop other stuff. I would generally love do paid open source work esp. with nix/os, currently all the stuff I'm maintaining is in my spare time. I would probably also do commission stuff if a project seems interesting

@koen the simplified answer for that is probably use limited resources to fund more automation which makes most contributions easier. Like for example a merge bot which allows package maintainers to merge package updates on their own because currently every PR even simple ones like a minor version bump have to be merged by one of the ~200 committers which is just not sustainable.
