Hi. I have a question for you, the hobbyist and/or indie gamedev. If you had a producer, on what problems would you ask them for help?

That's two questions. What problems are you dealing with? And what do you think the answer is, if you have an idea? (It's fine if not.)

A lot of problems are time based, so I'm curious if an extra pair of hands can help anyone. Maybe my hands. Maybe not. But maybe.

@aeva You're the pro in this field; I don't want to be patronizing, and obviously things work differently for different people. But I think you're undervaluing sprints, and compartmentalization insofar as you can say "I did a thing". Making solo projects, do you ever have something of this finished that lets you look at it and say "yeah, that's where this is headed"? I think having an element nailed down (and having good notes) that you can forget about (until I iterate) is very valuable. Or...

@aeva Or is your project giving you problems properly scoping, leading to you bouncing around? (I wasn't sure if you meant that. All that said, love to see someone caring about their health in this field.)

But yeah, accepting you have no limiting "runway" to speak of, that's an advantage as much as a problem. I'm curious if there's value in eschewing typical pro development and tinkering around into you have something and have to make more time. That's its own problem/reward, of course.

@aeva Some people can tinker and do whatever; I can't. I too value a plan. And I'm not good enough to be able to give a reliable time estimate, which I think is a phenomenal skill. I think most of us benefit from schedules of some type. If you can't put yours on a calendar, then "evening, half day, full day, chain days" sounds like a great way to flex schedule to me. Group each game by features, estimate times for each feature (and thus game,) (then double it,) and order them for dependence...

One of the deeply stupid things about interviews is they over index on monkey confidence.

Years ago I once go hired for wearing a hat. I'm still sort of ashamed. I thought they liked me because I answered the questions well.

But later people told me they were thinking, "Who wears a hat to an interview?! Must be a designer. Must be a good designer if he's confident enough to wear that hat!"

Interviews are a roll of the dice and a lot of times, success or failure, it isn't about you.

For All Mankind is maybe the kookiest scifi show ever made.

It's so deliberately absurd (as in the actual art movement Absurdism) I love it. Rockets! Mars! The USSR! Alt-history! Characters are now President, now on the Moon, now running a bar!

I love they don't even bother to age the actors really (50 years is just a bit of gray powder at the temples and call it a day). Kooky!

@ajroach42 Oh who doesn't have a million ideas, y'know? Probably a sim/management thing. But the actual plan is to take time the next couple days and pick the smallest idea and decide if it needs to be broken down smaller. Then start tinkering with Godot.
