I will say one thing about self studying the flute, it's an exercise in fucking patience because I have to battle my brain's tendency for "what, you're not instantly great? wow, you must suck a lot"
happy friday! we made it through another week together, and what a triumph that is. and I’m so glad you’re out there with me. 💜 I hereby decree we all deserve Hawaiian barbecue for lunch!
Each car will now come equipped with an Asshole Gun(TM)
if someone is driving like an Asshole(TM) you shoot their car with your Asshole Gun(TM) and their car's computer records the shot
if you get shot too many times with the Asshole Gun(TM) your car will not do more than 20 miles per hour and you are relegated to driving in the special Asshole(TM) lane
more than that and your car won't start at all till you've had time to contemplate your driving habits
Help, I think we bought a #flute that doesn't exist! We have found ZERO information on a Cadet Theme IV model flute on the internet. Mandela effect alternate universe instrument? 😱 #musicians or #band geeks of Mastodon, any ideas?
"Labor actions that boost workers’ ability to bargain collectively are the only path that has ever led to broadly shared prosperity. What is equally clear from history, however, is that the desire of workers alone has never been sufficient to overcome employers’ resistance to unions. Workers’ efforts need to be supported by strong policy measures that re-level the playing field between workers and employers."
Name a nonfiction book so good you wish you could read it again for the first time.
I'll go first.
Gödel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid, by Douglas Hofstadfter.
It's a bit of a journey, and a tough read in certain sections. I recommend taking it one chapter at a time and really letting it simmer before moving on to the next. But it will completely change the way you think about your own brain and how it works, and the payoff at the end is ridiculous.
The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind by Julian Jaynes

Slightly annoyed at what feels like a lack of #flute progress but I have to remind myself that I can now play four scales and some simple songs when about a month ago I couldn't even make the damn thing make any flute noises. Not to mention the janky $100 Amazon flute with blue tape on one of the levers... 👀
reminder for cis folks: if you’re not helping trans people, you are an INTEGRAL part of the system that oppresses us. yes, even if you don’t personally “have an issue” with us. The apathy and complacency of indifferent cis people is what allows trans oppression to happen.
@tillybridges@your_huckleberry What do you suggest in a work environment? My bosses tell transphobic jokes sometimes and I try to shut it down with a flat "that's not funny" but does anyone have any good go to responses when you can't really outright tell someone to shut the fuck up & they keep trying to justify themselves?
@tillybridges@your_huckleberry Yea It's super hard to say "fuck you" and walk from a job because I enjoy eating and such... & I mean they're not saying anything inciting discrimination or violence, more the "I identify as an attack helicopter" type cause they think it's funny and are oblivious, but that's bad enough.
@tillybridges@your_huckleberry We're a small company but even so I cringe every time wondering if we have a closeted lgbtq person or someone who knows one and will repeat it... I try to educate but I'm HR so I feel like they assume I'm doing it cause of political correctness...
@tillybridges@your_huckleberry I HAVE pointed out the potential risks of talking like that and I'm pretty sure if they knew it was affecting a trans employee they would stop, but... That's not good enough
Is there a word for "I don't really think #gender is a thing because it's a social construct in the way that money isn't a thing because it's a social construct so it exists but there's no real good social reason to have it but if doing gender makes you happy by all means do it"? or alternatively "I was AFAB and I'm cool with it but I don't know what being female even actually MEANS once you get away from the biological"?
It's like an oven outside and all my little dog has wanted to do all day is go outside and bake himself on the patio. 🤷 (don't worry we did not let him) #pdx#heatwave
For all his scientific accomplishments, Erwin Schrödinger was a sexual predator who wrote in his journal about infatuations with girls as young as 12. He groomed a 14 year old; when she was 17 he got her pregnant then abandoned her.
He argued that his genius gave him the right to pursue young girls.
