Have this #AllmanBrothers tribute gig coming up in #Raleigh at the Lincoln on Saturday so I sat down with my #dobro last night to make sure the internal Fishman still worked. Of course, it didn’t. So, a little heavy duty double sided tape and an old Lawrence and I’m back in business. Sounds pretty great, too!
In "Youtube is not working for electronic musicians," @lislegaard shares why he wants to see more experimental musicians talking about their artistic process.
“MEKONG DELTA BLUESMAN” Son Vo tells the story of his life both offstage and on. From an early childhood in Saigon to a hardscrabble life in Maine to discovering his gift for music, Vo relates some wild adventures in a voice full of warmth and hope. B PLUS
Quick introduction now that I've moved to Mastodon Music.
Swiss-based musician - bass, guitar, key, vocals of varying competencies. Played in Sydney in the 80s, Brisbane in the 90s, Myspace in the 00s + a rogue folk-acoustic set somewhere in there, nothing at all in the 10s!, and now active again. Several solo, collaborative and band activities locally and in Australia.
Also trying to recover all my old friends after the unexpected move, so boosts appreciated.
"It’s an album of immense ambition and immense vision, and the artist with his name on the jacket is operating from a place that is not one of expertise, but it’s also not amateurish. It exists in this middle space, one defined by eagerness and seeking."
For many who didn't see it - my 40th bday was amazing because of the community I found through #RFF - the most amazing bday I ever had
Let's show up and uplift them as they have uplifted many #musicians
#MutualAid is NOT #charity it is much greater it is not about the weak and sick and poor benefiting from others, it's everyone equally fighting to meet everyone's needs
We all have power we all have the ability to get needs met
My contribution to a student recital in Kolkata (no I did not travel) this coming weekend. A short bandish (composition) in #raag Kafi by my teacher Debashish Bhattacharya.
Kafi is parallel to the Dorian mode in Western music, but with rules for what notes can be "shaken" or glided.
The instrument is my Pushpa Veena, which is sort of a hybrid between slide guitar and sarod.
"You were expected to play what you don’t know, not what you already know…It’s easy to sit home and play all kinds of great ideas, great, but then when you’re playing with an ensemble, you can’t play that sh*t. You gotta react with the musicians, and sometime that may require you just keeping time and not playing all the hip stuff… it doesn’t work, because now you are part of a team. - Jazz drumming great, Jack DeJohnette #jass#drumming#drums#musicians#practice#performance

At a few points in my living history, the #USgovt tried to get #Redbone labeled as a terrorist group - because of their #music. #Censorship of #musicians - especially #BIPOC - who created resistance & activist songs were heavily censored in 70s - now.
My wife is in a small #orchestra (NULCO: Newcastle-under-Lyme Community Orchestra) and they have a chance to get a grant which would make a huge difference for them. Please help by voting, and by sharing the link.
They have #musicians of all ages and abilities, and play for the love of sharing #music.
