Is it not disgraceful that you have to use a trick so some third party company doesn’t install software you don’t want on your hardware? I think that’s appalling!
Tried our hand at making deep dish pizza for new years. Turned out quite good but I’m no expert so I can’t say how accurate it was. I am told the toppings are supposed to all go under the sauce but I couldn’t resist putting some pepperoni on top
No judgement but here in the UK this is more like what we’d call a flan than a pizza or a pie. So instead of arguing about pizzas and pies, why not embrace a third category?
I would say a quiche /ˈkiːʃ/ requires eggs whereas a tart doesn’t (necessarily), and I have no idea what a key-tch-zah is, we don’t have them in the UK. A quiche is a type of tart though, yes.
I feel like I gently warned about this during the process, relying on an inactive admin always seemed like a bad idea. I hoped it was taken care of and that somebody else was assigned console access but no assurance was provided, no explanation as to what the actual situation was, so I left here for another instance. Turns out my fears were true and I’m glad I didn’t waste any more time here.
I have no idea why folk were so eager for Tom to turn back up again, why that was a source of any delay, or any reason to change plans for “Quackhouse” once they were in advanced stages.
I feel like all this has really crushed what was a promising UK community on Lemmy, a double-blow now, and I hope any new instance that appears is well and truly distanced from this one.
Unfortunately, in case you’re unfamiliar with UK politics, making life as miserable as possible is the whole government’s thing at the moment and the majority don’t support them. Please do not call us stupid fucks though, we are their victims, perhaps figure out how to send help, get us invaded, anything to get rid of them.
Yes. I never claimed it was better than staying, I said right there “brexit was a bad idea but” - it was always going to be worse than staying but it didn’t need to be the unmitigated disaster that it was - that was the government’s fault.
Hmm, I have mixed feelings about this, honestly, I’m not going to grumble too much because I’m not the one putting in the work - but it felt like a bit of a let-down that all this happened in the first place, and it felt like a fresh start was needed to move on.
I already moved 25 days ago when it became clear it was abandoned. The decision is whether to come back, I hoped I would despite my small complaint, but your comment isn’t exactly making me feel any warmer here…
I don’t want to say anything inflammatory since something terrible might have happened to Tom that we don’t know - but it’s definitely not OK to start a community like this, get everyone on-board and established, then fail to appoint admins and disappear without explanation (even if busy) leaving other people to pick up the pieces, unless there’s a very good reason.
And to be honest I’m surprised I seem to be the only one saying that - maybe an explanation from him (if appropriate to share) would smooth things over. I was genuinely excited about the new instance as an opportunity for the UK communities on Lemmy to put a bad situation behind us and move on.
Sooo if you skim the previous posts on here, you’ll know that Feddit.uk’s only Admin (@tom) has been missing for a couple of months and in that time we were defederated by lemmy.world (although we’re back now) and we are one upgrade behind (just a minor fix) with one much bigger one whistling down the pipeline that may...
Thanks to all the people working on saving the day! I’ve taken a break from the instance for the time being because of the uncertainty but looking forward to, hopefully, joining you on wave 3.
I’m 100% on board with instances blocking who they like, but I really think it should be more transparent than that. If we’re blocked, we should at least get a message that we’re blocked when trying to post…
If you’re talking ethics, I think the most important thing is that the user controls what their software does. YouTube videos are hosted on the web, and fundamentally people can choose how to display web sites on their own computer. Of course, if YouTube doesn’t like this it’s their prerogative to not host their content like that.
Just making sure I’m in the right place. I cannot see any developed communities here so I’ve started wondering, what’s the real place everyone from Reddit has moved to? I’ve heard something about Discuit, but never tried it.
