MicrowavedTea,

Does the blinking yellow light allow drivers to turn onto pedestrians crossing with a green pedestrian light? Cause here that’s the only way you can turn in many intersections and that’s not exactly safer. You shouldn’t put this responsibility on the drivers at all.

MicrowavedTea,

Interesting, so blinking yellow obviously means the same everywhere but where these are placed varies a lot. In Greece I’ve never seen green for both cars and pedestrians either, but there are many cases where pedestrians get green and cars yellow for the same part of road (usually when cars turn right at intersections). From the answers I take it the original comment probably meant cars turning into the path of other cars, not people, which sounds a bit better.

MicrowavedTea,

Regardless of home alone, every version of Carol of the Bells I’ve heard is great. And it sounds like a horror movie theme so I listen to it throughout the year.

MicrowavedTea,

Nah, standing in the sun without getting sweaty is one of the best feelings of winter

MicrowavedTea,

I thought I’d use it when I got my phone but I’ve since found Bluetooth headphones that are actually convenient so I don’t. Now this headphone form factor is dying so I might go back to wired once they stop working. I hope the jack still exists by then.

MicrowavedTea,

Watching game shows like the voice or masterchef of other countries to get a feeling of “real” language/accents. Usually movies or the news use a more formal and clear language but when you understand these shows you know you can understand people in everyday conversations.

MicrowavedTea,

I had the same idea but it seems only kbin users’ downvotes appear on kbin (but you can see lemmy users’ upvotes). Have you managed to see lemmy downvotes like this at some point?

MicrowavedTea,

When I need to run multiple vms, work laptop is much stronger than personal laptop and there is usually no personal data related so sure. I’ve also used the only (work) iPhone I have for Apple related things, like using apple books, which is admittedly stupid but I consider anything I get from there single use either way and not particularly private either.

MicrowavedTea,

I can’t find an image of it but the phone/watch concept shown in The Peripheral would be cool. Basically a touch screen that can be either flat and work like current smartphones or wrapped around your arm with the whole area being a screen (with a better interface than current smartwatches).

MicrowavedTea,

Pretty much yeah, it might have been the same motion as well

MicrowavedTea,

Dreams that feel like a creation

  • Moving through some amazing scenery (waterfalls and the sea always look great) and knowing this is all part of your imagination.
  • Trying food with really weird flavors that still taste great. I don’t like food that much in real life.
  • A specific type of dream where you experience the plot in 1st person but there is also a voice over that you kinda control, in the style of a book. It’s a bit weird but became much more frequent after I started reading more. Anybody else get this?
MicrowavedTea,

Recommendations on YouTube are pretty bad but there is still good content. You just need to find some good channels and basically only browse the subscriptions tab. It’s a much better experience

MicrowavedTea,

I don’t know if you count the A series but most people I know buy that and not the S series, and that’s usually much cheaper than a pixel. Also I feel like it’s an unpopular opinion here but I really like OneUI and once you get used to it, it may not be convenient to change back to stock.

MicrowavedTea,

Is that uncommon? I also have a small box next to my bed for trapping bugs so that I can release them outside. Bonus points if it’s transparent and you get to see them up close.

MicrowavedTea,

Not sure about languages but do headphone letters actually get translated? I’ve always seen them as L-R.

MicrowavedTea,

I love the long-running sentences that still make perfect sense like

“The Bursar hadn’t got where he was today, or rather where he had been ten seconds ago, which was where a calm and self-assured personality was, rather than where he was now, which was on the verge of a mild heart attack, without a tremendous ability to recover from unexpected upsets.”

-Moving Pictures

Or anything said by the witches

“Everywhere’s been where it is ever since it was first put there. It’s called geography.”

-Nanny Ogg, Wyrd Sisters

MicrowavedTea,

It doesn’t have to be a big emergency, FM can still be very useful. A few years ago there was an earthquake in my city that wasn’t too big but we still had to evacuate the building. I don’t remember any damage in my area but because everyone was trying to make calls there was ZERO cell service. So a bunch of people were gathered around my phone listening to a news station for updates because I was the only one who had brought headphones. Without FM this ability is now lost.

MicrowavedTea,

Honestly this is amazing. If only it wasn’t so big…

Do you pirate? And do you justify pirating? i.e., what is your piracy philosophy?

Well, my friend, he’s kinda poor he can’t afford some books and some streaming services, so he pirates. He pirate books, audiobook and videos and other stuff. Sometimes he buys books he likes a lot out of loyalty to the author (yeah, I don’t understand it either), he likes to read physical books, but yeah, if he hates the...

MicrowavedTea,

Specifically for books I pirate because I get a better product this way. I prefer reading on my phone and downloading an epub means I can open it in any app I want, add chapters and share it with whoever I want. If I could easily pay for a book and get the same experience without any drm or online account bullshit I would probably do it.

Physical books are also ok but buying anything not in my language means possibly waiting forever for it to arrive and paying more for transit costs. I may still do it if I really want to support the author but I’d rather have a way to pay them directly tbh.

MicrowavedTea,

That’s a good question, I’m not sure. I just make sure the file has the correct extension and it’s opened with the correct app. I’ve never had an issue on android but I mostly download from the same site which seems to have good files (and always with adblock).
