I wasn't entirely sold on Kidd as a coach as recently as the start of the playoffs but in addition to holding the respect of his players - including Kyrie - he's done a nice job. I don't have a single critique really. They play smart, they lean into advantages, they get the most out of their role players. Good job by him.

NateFederman,
@NateFederman@shakedown.social avatar

@mrcompletely I don’t like Kidd because I don’t like men who hit their wives, but the amount of flack he got as a dumb coach was overblown (post Bucks job). Don’t think he’s on the level of Spoelstra, but he gets his guys to work hard on D and they understand what they do well and who to pick on. Nothing overly complex. They run that double stagger screen over and over again, but it works.

@NateFederman@shakedown.social avatar

@mrcompletely

Agree on everything you just said.

Also can’t get behind Dallas because despite Luka being arguably the second best player in the league, he’s a whiny little bitch who annoys the hell out of me. Don’t like him, or Kyrie, or Kidd. So I’m holding my nose and rooting hard for Boston.

NateFederman,
@NateFederman@shakedown.social avatar

@mrcompletely @brucy I like Horford, Holiday, and White. I went to Syracuse, so rooting for Oshae too. The J’s I’m indifferent to. My Celtics fan friends are cool. Many, many masshole Celtic fans are not. I’m jealous of their historical success, but I’ll get over that to root against Luka, Kyrie, (who are incredible) and Kidd (who beat his wife).

I was rooting for Denver, just because I love watching Jokic play, but I gotta tip my hat to Minnesota. The defense that they played in this series was some of the best defense I’ve ever seen played. No hyperbole. Game 2 and that second half might be the best defense I’ve ever seen played in an game. Just incredible stuff.

NateFederman,
@NateFederman@shakedown.social avatar

@mrcompletely that’s the competition for me. I don’t know how to compare modern era defenses to the 90’s. The defensive rule changes (even with the increased physicality post all-star break) make it feel like two different sports.

As a Knicks fan, I’m here for all the Embiid hate. Sorry, but he deserves it. But I can’t find a way to not like Tyrese Maxey. That kid is a baller and charming as hell.

Game 2 Game 5 Murray late game winners. Can’t seem to play a decent third qtr. Vandy and Vincent banged up throughout the year hurt defense. Bad matchup. LBJ gives it everything he has every game and he’s the only one. Better team won but not by as much as most folks thought.

NateFederman,
@NateFederman@shakedown.social avatar

@mrcompletely @phewstepsaway I think AD and Lebron looked pretty gassed in a lot of these 4th quarters. Both were carrying such a heavy burden throughout the series - it’s hard to keep that up all game when you’re 39 years old or banging with Jokic all game. As someone who hates the Lakers, I believed they could win the series up until the final whistle sounded. Lebron / AD just needed a little more consistent help than they got.

So Zion is def not as unstoppable going to the basket as the Kings made him look, because last night Draymond played him and did a great job. He's still got the physique for it and the savvy. Zion beat him with quickness a few times but for the most part got his after forcing switches. What was cool though is that he didn't get frustrated or just start hoisting 3s, he kept playing with force and kicking it out for the 3s that won the game. And he had another great high energy night on D

NateFederman,
@NateFederman@shakedown.social avatar

@mrcompletely second night of a back to back for Steph where he had to go hard in the fourth to beat the blazers the night before. He’s far from cooked, but just not quite the every night dominant player he has been.

Sponge infrastructure: an effective, green way to ease flooding concerns in urban areas and water availability issues while climate change is also addressed.

LA's system includes permeable surfaces and spreading grounds to absorb stormwater. The city captured 8.6 billion gallons of water recently.

It’s important to pay attention to local politics, where solutions like this and who runs water agencies are decided.

Los Angeles Just Proved How Spongy a City Can Be:

NateFederman,
@NateFederman@shakedown.social avatar

@TonyStark I have a friend who’s an expert on exactly this subject. She wrote bills in Sacramento, advised the mayor’s office, and now heads up on non-profit. She said that if LA really invested in recapture it would solve all of our short and medium-term water shortage issues. Even in drought years. We’ve made progress, but still have a ways to go.

I’ve never felt older than when I looked at the full lineup.

Jockstrap, Upchuck, Pecker Reno, Jjuujuu, Sir Yessir, For Skin, Anti Up, Slut, Sharon El Fire, Bicep Presents Chroma, Isoknock, Gorgon City, Eartheater, Afterbirth, Magenta Indigo, Destroy Lonely, The Icks, Brutalismus 3000, XDIDOD, Tasty Shane

Ten of these are actual Coachella performers. The other ten I totally made up. Without looking, can you tell what’s what?

I can’t say how I’d respond to it if I saw it for the first time today, but it was a Trojan horse movie for me. I thought I was getting a typical teen comedy (and in some ways it is), but beneath that veneer is darkness, surrealism, and quirkiness mixed with some really funny dry humor. It opened my teenage eyes to a new world of comedy. Maybe some of the humor in it is commonplace now, but it felt revolutionary at the time.

NateFederman,
@NateFederman@shakedown.social avatar

@mrcompletely @mielcarz @chopaganda great comparison! Very different movies, but both colored way outside the lines of a typical teen comedy. Both were hugely influential on me in my formative years.

Eggy

Rating: Buy

I question their ceiling due to songwriting and vocals that come up short, but there is no doubt these guys can play. And while not great, their vocals are still better than most pure jambands.

For now, it seems like they are destined for more growth and excitement , so we’re firm on the buy rating.

@mrcompletely @chopaganda I agree. I saw him at an 1,800 capacity theatre and thought the show was great (not tier 1, but very good). Also saw him at a large amphitheater and it was just too big a space for what he was playing. And that venue is much more intimate than his arena shows. With the bigger venues comes some real undesirable fans too.

Golden State has put together a really nice rotation without Draymond, and they're playing loose, with joy. It's time to move on I think, and move him for whatever they can get. No hurry, but I think they're better without him (no matter the outcome of this game). Kuminga coming on, Wiggins playing a bit better, Podziemski giving them reliable high energy minutes, it's a fun team to watch again

NateFederman,
@NateFederman@shakedown.social avatar

@mrcompletely @butter what’s the trade for Dray? Best I’ve heard is him for Jarrett Allen, but I don’t know that the Cavs would do that.

NateFederman,
@NateFederman@shakedown.social avatar

@mrcompletely @butter not sure if you saw the Shams tweet, but Kuminga “no longer believes that Kerr will allow him to reach his full potential.” Seems like he very clearly wants out. Don’t blame him - tons of talent, but not the best fit for the intricacies of the Dubs’ offense. Moody getting DNP’s - wonder what they could get for those guys? GSW in every game, but keep losing close ones - gotta do something. Can’t waste the few remaining prime Steph seasons.

At least they now have a better idea of demand to calibrate the platinum, premium, and secondary (which is really primary) market prices.

@tuneslist @chopaganda I saw someone do similar math on Reddit. A person who ordered within the first hour vs a person who ordered with 5 minutes left in the lottery. Order numbers were nearly 400,000 apart.
