That voltage and frequency range on this train socket is just… interesting.
Seems like they use something like a fixed ratio transformer from the source voltages of 1000-1500-3000 V with an optional simple inverter if the power happens to be DC.

I wonder what kind of appliance is safe to plug in. Despite the sticker, I think that switching mode power supply, like the one for a laptop would actually work well.

These signals at the end of the platforms in Bussums with a level crossing right behind are interesting. If a train is passing through the station, they can go green with the barriers still open and have the barriers triggered by track circuits, but if a train is stopping, the signal stays red and only goes green once the barriers are closed.

Oskar456,
@Oskar456@mastodon.social avatar

@partim Railway crossings in Czechia that are part of station work like this as well. It is quite efficient because the crossing is not closed for unnecessarily long time and at the same time the trains are allowed to pass at full speed.

Question for people who know Czech railway ticketing: Can I use a OneTicket day ticket from Zittau to Liberec?

Oskar456,
@Oskar456@mastodon.social avatar

@partim I don't think Zittau is part of the Czech public tariff system, so OneTicket would probably not be valid there.

But you can get an Euro-Nisa-ticket: https://www.cd.cz/en/typy-jizdenek/mezinarodni-jizdenky/-28639/

Also, you can get some cross border tips from my post about German trains 😎

Precisely 10 years ago, I received my first router from CZ.NIC.
Even after all these years the router still receives the latest software updates and can be even upgraded to support Wi-Fi 6.

TIL: there are no credit cards in the Netherlands. What they call credit card is actually a charge card - you must repay the whole debt every month.

It probably relates to the government cap of interest rate to 15 % p. a.

Těším se moc!

I just trawled various NS websites for half an hour to find a way to contact them by email (or webform).

Can we, as a society, please accept that there is a large number of people for whom having to call someone is about the Worst Thing Ever? And no, chatbots are even worse.

Oskar456,
@Oskar456@mastodon.social avatar

@partim They just don't do e-mail. They only accept e-mail if it is an response to an e-mail started from them. If you try to hijack that e-mail address to start a new ticket, they will just automatically respond that such address is not monitored.

Chatting with NS is probably the main reason for keeping a Twitter account, since the web chat thing is just pathetic - you wait minutes for their response but if your reply takes more then a minute, they will disconnect and you have to start again.

    Ještě víc mě ale štvou exonyma, protože pro ně zdá se neplatí žádná pravidla: „Z Chemnitzu přes Postupim do Grazu a Janova“ 🤨

    It’s all fun and games until you realize that USB-C is a type of connector, not a protocol (doesn’t even have to be USB over it) and not a connector & protocol combination like most of what is depicted.

    In other words, we switched from ports and connectors that had specific shapes for specific single protocols to a connector that looks the same but uses different protocols and mutually incompatible cables.

    Oskar456,
    @Oskar456@mastodon.social avatar

    @thomasfuchs @zrail not true. All cables with USB Type-C connectors have to support USB 2.0 as well as power lines capable of 3A and CC singling wire. Otherwise it is not a complaint USB cable.

    Of course, there is no standards-police preventing manufacturers from producing something explicitly forbidden by the specs. But you can hardly blame USB IF for that.

    We're experiencing the first power outage since we installed our system.
    We've got 28% of the battery left and the panels are now producing 1 kW while the house is consuming 200 W (the heat pump is not backed up), so we're fine for the time being.
    We wouldn't even notice the outage if the carpenters hadn't plugged the fridge into the socket for the oven that was not supposed to be backed up. 🤦

    Oskar456,
    @Oskar456@mastodon.social avatar

    @sesivany this fact that the most of your household is attached to a big UPS is a very nice side effect of having a PV system.

    Oskar456,

    @nlnetlabs I'm particularly interested in Routinator. We use it for BGP security training labs where we let the participants install it on a Linux server directly from NLnet Labs repositories.

    Today I found out that this fails if people use Apple Silicon running arm64 Ubuntu VM.

    Two Intercity Berlijn, both still with a 1700. Does NS have enough Vectron by now to run the service from Sunday or will there have to be fun improvisation?
