Zum Stand der in DE

Wir haben im August 2023 mit eigenen Augen gesehen, wie das im Sommer 2021 (jaha, 2021) bis ans Haus gelegte Telekom-Glasfaserkabel (aka überhaupt erstmalig irgendein „Internet“) ins Haus gelegt wurde

Seitdem ruht die See still, Telekom sagt „Die Strasse hat gar kein Internet“

Gebäudeverwaltung kann seit Wochen nichts herausfinden und ist selbst verschollen

Ob man einfach n WLAN-Kabel direkt in den Trafokasten stecken muss?

I finally moved Threads and Bluesky off of my personal iPhone and onto the Samsung S23 I use for all my content creation. I barely use it and I don't like how much data it sucks up. Effectively meaning on my personal phone in terms of social media I only have Mastodon ( @IceCubesApp ), Discord, Matrix ( @element ), Pixelfed, Whatsapp, and signal.

When I get my next iPhone I plan to set it up as a new phone, transfer the photos, and only install apps I actually still use.

@chiefgyk3d @IceCubesApp @element That view is quite shortsighted. It doesn't take into account that the iPhone is an integral part of Apples gilded cage ecosystem. Apple-users are not mere naked, they are transparent. You experienced that already.
The alternative is a clean und usable custom-ROM (not GOS because that runs only on Google(!) devices). Primarily I think of iodé.

"what most people need" -- well, if you NEED it you just have to pay the price. But do you really NEED this or that? I for one am completely satisfied with iodé, and I know a lot of others who as well are content with Lineage, /e/OS and the like.

"this wouldn’t work for them": Give me one example please. Excluded are 'pay w/ phone' and all about crypto money. Those two are off-limits for me.
Under iodé I even managed to run the very very delicate PushTAN App from my bank.

Nein: Otto und Erna Normaluser profitieren davon nicht. Außerdem bedenke: Wer dem Mithören des eigenen Providers entkommen will, muss aber dem VPN-Provider VERTRAUEN! Für mich gibt es da nur einen: Mich selbst. 😆
Ja: Für den Zugriff auf mein Heimnetz samt seiner Ressourcen und Filterung (Pi-Hole) brauche ich VPN. Mit Wireguard, was ja inzwischen sogar die Fritzboxen können, ist die Einrichtung kinderleicht.

Are there any brands of 55”+ 4k uhd tv sets that function without connecting it to the internet or using the invasive, ad-spewing, but underpowered “smart” functions? To connect an external media player instead?

Atm I have a low quality projector that I can bypass the operating system of via an hdmi connection to a media player that hosts streaming services and backed up blurays.

No "Smart" TV at all, but a dumb large screen (or all "smart" functions switched off) fed by a Linux based media player. I have a computer running and recording what I want to see (from satellite); the media collection is stored there and presented to the LAN.

The last I’ll say on Beeper/Apple/iMessage debacle:

I think it’s within Beeper’s right to attempt at reverse engineering iMessage, but not Apple’s responsibility to be forced or even expected to host Beeper customers. It’s clear Apple doesn’t want to and I don’t blame them. If this ever went to court, Apple would obliterate Beeper—even if they switched lawyers. It’s not Beeper’s right to push the burden and expense of hosting on Apple.
