It sounds like what it is, Flying. Not a tasty pill to swallow but these are the dues of the division modern society has allowed.

No more Village raising the children. No more respected elders, trusted craft people, or neighborly bonds.

For the illusion of connection and its subsequent gamification and for the enrichment of those who say what we want to hear, these are the dues to be paid.

We live and die alone, bemoaning a loss of bonds that could be mended at any time; let he who is lonely lay their cynicism down first.

No, I don’t believe it’s that easy (and recognize the risks of being first) but it probably is that simple. No clue how the message is amplified back through time in a manner that gets enough likes though.

  1. Retaliation has a meaning that does not have bearing here; mens rea for that cannot be established under the circumstances.
  2. Level of reciprocity in force has always mattered; at least we’re not under Hammurabi’s anymore.
  3. The prosecutor’s office in the referenced discussion disagrees with you and you are making claims and not arguments.

This. Nowhere is the paradox of tolerance more dangerous than around “ableism” issues; people gotta learn to keep their targets sighted on the actual scum Insidiously using empathy to cross purposes.

The rightfully tolerant protector of the less able does not argue against the Nazi arguing he should be able to punch people without repercussions, they punch the Nazi until he shuts up and go back to equity for everyone else with a clean conscience.

Don’t tolerate the intolerant; don’t shield them with the benefit of the doubt or stop those with the conviction to stand up for those being told to sit either.

Of course not. Why would I risk limiting our market share that way?

I demonstrate synergy and the ability to run an agile ship by instead outsourcing development of an app charging 1,000,000,000 people $15 monthly for the privilege of pressing the button and posting that they weren’t it this month.

Then I press it, because we must make sure our actions align with increasing shareholder value.

But only “pretty good”! Which sounds neat but that is just one step above “foundational” and good luck getting to mastery after skipping that, and finding the whole proposition a bunch of bullshit and really pretty good is enough, let’s do the next thing and the next until we lose a few more forgotten “pretty goods” for lack of practice!

Shhh, you’ll attract the solarpunks and then we’ll really be finding out all about the ways of low-tech and high-nature. Some of us have things to do today other than design low-watt high-flow irrigation.

This. The realpolitik purpose of showing your death and anti-death toys is always at least a little about “don’t fuck with us” same way a cigar is usually someone’s mother.

Monke brain still Monke beneath the abstractions.

Funny way of saying “desperately holding on to mortal sanity amidst the true reality of non-linear time and its cosmic horror worthy implications” there, but I agree.

Musk Admits He Doesn't Fact-Check Himself and Has Two Burner Accounts on Twitter (www.rollingstone.com)

Elon Musk‘s erratic posting on X, formerly Twitter, has come back to haunt him once again as a 22-year-old Jewish man pursues a defamation case over tweets in which the tech mogul baselessly suggested the recent college graduate was an undercover federal agent posing as a neo-Nazi during a street fight between far-right...

Yes. Cunning =/= intelligence. A rat can reach the center of the maze off the smell of the cheese, not an understanding of geometry or topography.

The phrase “there is nothing new under the sun” doesn’t mean there’s no originality left in the world. It means all stories resonate because of the human condition. Remixing the tropes is entirely the point of storytelling. The tropes are the substrate and how our brain likes patterns, not the patterns themselves. Enjoy what you enjoy and not what you’re told.

Young fellas; as a not so young fella who some say used to fuck: Don’t be a dick while thinking with your dick.

It’s that easy. You be you, be whatever you’re interested in, and just use your goddamn eye balls to read if the person is uncomfortable. If they are, smile and fuck off king. Keep it going; don’t be a dick and watch that aura work and that dick get wet.

But remember, you have to genuinely not be a dick. Be yourself, be assertive or not, there’s someone (many someones even) for everyone and never mind the bullshit rules 1 and 2 you self-deluded fucks.

Don’t. Be. A. Dick.

You’ll be happier, the people around you will be happier, and you will fuck and feel good about it while making others feel good about it. Simple secret.

Don’t. Be. A. Dick.

Mild electric shock and a vandalism charge if caught. Worth it? I don’t know but I’m getting sick of the fucking ads

Edit: So stab then pump, instead of the other way around to avoid boom boom?

His vehicles aren’t even safe for other Dragons to ride on. Why would I buy from a company who unironically had the below answer for me when I googled from the back seat of one of their cars while Ubering and thought of that news:

Opening a Rear Door with No Power

Not all Model Y vehicles are equipped with a manual release for the rear doors. Remove the mat from the bottom of the rear door pocket. Press the red tab to remove the access door. Pull the mechanical release cable forward.

Emphasis mine. Still don’t know which kind I was on, but an emergency would have not been the ideal ‘find out’ time. I’ll avoid that by not fucking around with purchasing their cars.

What’s that? You can message through the app to refill all the other ones easily but not the magic one requires calls and in-person visits to remember and juggle? Cool cool cool.

The one at the bottom who is supposed to just fucking walk but keeps threatening the stability of the whole thing by randomly blurting out nonsense.

In the dimly lit boudoir, she sat at her ornate bureau, perusing an array of gourmet hors d’oeuvres, contemplating which avant-garde piece from her repertoire to perform at the soirée, her silhouette an epitome of haute couture elegance. Meanwhile, her fiancé, a connoisseur of fine arts and a critic of the bourgeoisie’s penchant for laissez-faire economics, prepared a detailed critique on the nuances of ballet and the je ne sais quoi of modern art installations, embodying the esprit de corps of their eclectic salon.

Statements dreamed by the utterly deranged.

Avast, the cybersecurity software company, is facing a $16.5 million fine after it was caught storing and selling customer information without their consent. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced the fine on Thursday and said that it’s banning Avast from selling user data for advertising purposes.

Love the vibe and energy against pretense for pretense sakes, but your source makes you seem demented as it literally repeats exactly what they said if you read it.

Y’all. Did you have your coffees this morning?

There’s already an organically evolved etymologically rich word for the “passing of closed thinking”, that harkens back to “leading in” or Inducing…

Indoctrination.

While I see your point and truth is we’ll just never know, I am afraid you might be a bit naive.

I just don’t see the circumstances for a random burglar to be snooping through folders close enough to find the presumably relatively hidden items they’d need to find, let alone that happening alongside the low odds an actual burglar would risk their own security to do the right thing.

This is exactly what burgling is. Having been the unfortunate victim once not even the spines of my books were safe. Burglars watch the same movies, so they will cut into your cushions, paintings, go through folders, behind outlets.

Then I got way too into a show about two ex burglars who would look for volunteer houses to break into, and yeah. No stone is left unturned and with far more diligence they would ever put in a real job.

I’ll be honest. I want to believe in the Fediverse and Lemmy, really really hard.

It’s ideals (rather, the gestalt of the best of what everyone says is the best of Federation) appeals strongly.

But sometimes, it’s instance after instance of complaining about this or that. Double points when it’s all reddit complaining.

I dunno if being a heavy content creator necessitates an air of misguided superiority but there’s no more nuance here than anywhere else, and the content can’t seem to form precisely because everyone decides to take their toys away and do their own thing at the smallest provocation.

I don’t use them on my phone because fuck their app, but I’ve found no choice but to join up with an alias and as much extensions to make their job harder as Firefox allows, just to have genuine discussions on hyper specific topics from a PC.

Man. Every time I see it again spelled out, how smooth these disingenuous decrepit assholes had it when they were my age, I start wishing for a claymore and a stump.

Promethiel,

Far more people than you seem to think so are feeling up to it, risk of bodily harm nonwithstanding. That same history shows that whole lots of people do and have gotten that fed up.

The current challenge imo is the hyperfocused and extremely well funded tools to disorganize and fracture populaces globally.

They are so abstract, so psychologically targeted and so pervasive that they enable the rise of fascism again even though many of the players are frankly cartoonishly inept (more so than in the past; fascism is cunning and bullish, but seldom clever) to the point that the banality of evil of yesterday is nearly preferable to the bumbling cruelty of today.

Yes, still feeling up to it, but while the precipice nears, there’s still both time to turn the car around and get ready to violently brake. We’re just careful drivers until there’s a need to maneuver.

Promethiel,
@Promethiel@lemmy.world avatar

Keep being you. Fight that feeling one person at a time, we should all follow that example.

You’re not imagining things, the world is not just “getting weird” but division is sown our way from a multitude of places for their own profits and agendas.

Yet, we must be silenced. The people can not be allowed to speak. Even as dystopia gives the diseased members of the species ever more powerful and abstract tools to divide us, they still fear us talking.

That’s because what you’re doing is literally all it takes to begin eroding the artificial pen walls. We’re made to communicate and tell each other stories, that’s deeply ingrained.

What we’re losing slowly and globally is our sense of cohesion. Neighbor to neighborhood, resident to city, citizen to country, human to human.

All of our innate mental structures that trend towards “making it all work, no matter who is helped because it helps me too” are constantly being twisted and attacked. But we are what we are, so keep fighting the good fight.
