Nobody likes a sucker, especially the kind that fall for fruit tarts like you. I knew there was trouble. I could smell it on the hot evening breeze. Fortunately for me, trouble is my favorite thing… Because I’m Joe Milkshake. I kicked down the door with one swift, decisive motion.

I am a bit worried the response to this here is not a unified everyone’s an asshole in this screenshot.

Academic publishing is in a very sorry state for a long time by now. A lot of research that is published is not reproducible. A lot of actual research is also in fact never published like that because companies base their products on it and publish those results only as patents.

So just by trying to be smug and oppose the Muskie you show yourself to be an idiot. Well done.

I’ve always wondered if Ken M was one person or just another anon designation.

Why doesn't youtube shut down their public web api?

so we already know that youtube doesn’t like people freeloading their bandwidth using something like invidious, piped, newpipe etc. why don’t they just close the public web api and require a login or something. by requiring login they can keep track of what users are watching and if a user is watching thousands of videos...

True but you also would need a ton of storage space to compete. I’d be curious what would happen if YouTube decided to restrict public access.

Everytime I see “riddled” and “virus” together I cannot help but think of that Ricky Gervais/Liam Neeson sketch… “riddled with AIDS”

It is laughably easy to decide for toddlers, especially if they are not your toddlers.

Yes, exactly. The upvotes did not reflect actual real engagement for a long time. I don’t remember anymore where I read about it, but allegedly there is also some artificial correction applied. Maybe to combat brigading of upvotes but can of course be used for manipulation.

Edit: oh man, please don’t read this out of context.

CEO of Google Says It Has No Solution for Its AI Providing Wildly Incorrect Information (futurism.com)

You know how Google’s new feature called AI Overviews is prone to spitting out wildly incorrect answers to search queries? In one instance, AI Overviews told a user to use glue on pizza to make sure the cheese won’t slide off (pssst…please don’t do this.)...

I let you in on a secret: scientific literature has its fair share of bullshit too. The issue is, it is much harder to figure out its bullshit. Unless its the most blatant horseshit you’ve scientifically ever seen. So while it absolutely makes sense to say, let’s just train these on good sources, there is no source that is just that. Of course it is still better to do it like that than as they do it now.

Oh man, when I saw Frakes name I had high hopes for this. Not going to write too much about the episode but I have no clue how they are giving this series a satisfying finale in that very last episode after this!

One thing though, what the hell was going on with Discovery when they tried to find that clue within the two black holes. They go in, get out of the two black holes, see the container and are like, let’s talk this over how to get this thing. Then the Breen swoop in and tractor that bucket into their cargo hold within 5 seconds! What gives? That was just needless incompetence. The Discovery crew is seriously not that stupid.

Why not having the Breen swoop in as Disocvery is attempting to escape. Then while Discovery is heading out the Breen grab the clue. Could have made up some technobabble about how some radiation from the black holes obscures Discovery from the Breen or whatever.

Anything else but what was shown. Damn. How is this so hard?
