"Components are tightly coupled: it’s hard to use a Laravel component outside Laravel because it requires many other packages and wiring."
from https://www.reddit.com/r/PHP/comments/131t2k1/laravel_considered_harmful/

It's why I stopped writing and showing Laravel code snippets.

You may perhaps disagree with the title "Laravel considered harmful", but the contents are extremely valid/on point.

If you never noticed these massive flaws, you should look deeper at how you select your toolchain; how it affects the compromises that you dev teams consider "acceptable".

For me, the grand majority of Laravel's shortcuts are absolutely unacceptable, in the context of professional software development.

That's no problem for those who don't write tests.

Of course, the prod deployment failure on Friday is the icing on the cake of a shitty week...

@shochdoerfer I wish the extended weekend can unshit some of the stuff that happened during the week.

Eating food out of a bowl - preferably with a spoon - is high comfort for me. Anyone else?! I now even have a photo album just for my ... and I honestly don't know what to do with that. Maybe just scroll through it longingly every time I have to eat from a 😤 plate 😤

SenseException,
@SenseException@phpc.social avatar

@mirjam_diala I prefer bowls too when it comes to food with tasty liquids like brews in my home-cooked soups or stews/mulligans. Or cornflakes (which I strangely eat in the evening rather than in the morning).

SenseException,

@mirjam_diala They definetly have a special place in my kitchen. (Metaphorically. They're in the same place as my plates.)

First time in a while that I got a PPK file. Last time I was still working on a Windows client. I used putty-tools to create a private key on a Linux machine.

"Someone was trying to login your Facebook account ... and we disabled your login."

It's a legit Facebook link but my first thought was "I don't have a Facebook account". But then I remembered that I had to develop something a long time ago when FBML was relatively new. So it's a call from the past that locked me out. 😅

Brought my 9-year-old daughter to a quiz at a local board game place. The theme was astronomy. She was the only kid there, but she got a few answers right, including a tough one.

Our team came in second. She really enjoyed herself and seems to want to repeat the experience. Am I doing this right?

SenseException,

Participating at a conference in the early dev years: "Wow, so many people and sponsors and boothes. Can't decide the talks, they're all new. The last talk showed an awesome tech I'll use for every project now. Oh, stickers!"

Participating at a conf in the later dev years: "Hey, people I know for years. I'll skip the next talks for hall session. Maybe solve problems. One slide of the last talk showed something I didn't know yet. Maybe I'll get requirements where it's good to use. Oh, stickers!"

The worst thing that ever happened in software engineering was when Kirk asked Scotty how long something would take and Scotty said thirty minutes and Kirk said you’ve got five and Scotty got it done in five and impressionable children watched this and grew up to become managers.

SenseException,
@SenseException@phpc.social avatar

@isaacfreeman Then there were episodes where the engineering team was maintaining their work and doing it right after a crisis was over. No one talks about that part in Star Trek.
