i went into public research because the culture and incentive of tech companies, especially those you're pushed into as a young engineering graduate, is nauseating, and frontally clashes with my personal values. in retrospect it was naive to think i could escape most of that culture by going into research (especially considering my main supervisor's attitude), but seeing the active sabotage by our neolib government of research to turn it into a patent-producing startup factory makes my blood boil even more;

there's nowhere safe from the capitalist brain; you must burn a startup company if you aspire to have any tangible impact in this world

I sent a GDPR right to erasure request to that contentnation.net scraper person, and got the following reply just now:

Hi Sammy,

we deleted all local data that was assigned to your mastodon account @theresnotime@wikis.world.

But since the original data is still online, opening the site with below URL will fetch it again. To have it permanently
removed, the original source has to be deleted first.
That is a general issue on distributed systems like mastodon. There is nothing we can do about or
against that.

De plus, vous n'avez pas de scrupules à nous afficher dans vos discussions, ce qui incite un afflux de réflexions transphobes (donc la manifestation d'une transphobie, s'il on suit vos délinéations arbitraire de ce que vous tolérez). Si vous avez atteint ce point de mon message, ce dont je doute fortement si l'on considère que vous avez probablement déjà déterminé il y a deux ou trois phrases que mon intervention ne valait pas la peine d'être lue, je vous invite, cordialement, à prendre votre pseudo neutralité et la ravaler bien profondémment jusqu'où la lumière ne brille jamais.

@melunaka @Freyja y'a probablement quelque chose à dire sur la façon dont le langage au sein de cette communauté est volontairement élitiste et incompréhensible pour une personne extérieure et participe à enfermer le groupe externe hors des conversations et des prises de décision. J'ai vraiment une vibe similaire à la façon dont le vocabulaire des channers est construit, mais ici avec le besoin d'afficher qu'on est (ou qu'on veut paraître) d'une classe sociale élevée.

oh boy am i tired of talking about , but seems now that they banned someone for "false accusations" (aka calling out the general transphobia of this whole situation) in less than three hours with 5 admin votes, it's time i try and see if people over here can actually get something done in the instances above french admins.

I probably should compile all of the things that have been happening in a blog post for English-speaking people. My previous post is no longer up to date with the recent events, including that ban above, things we've discovered regarding past transphobic things in the community, or the fact that they're trying to make a new poll on the same topic.

LB for non-french speakers: French wikipedia editors tried to restrict the admissibility on their poll to determine a blanket policy on what to do regarding deadnaming of trans people. They now seem very pissed that trans people showed up to be heard, and are trying to rollback the poll altogether, claiming our participation is biased.
