I can't describe the amount of rage I have for people that willfully decide to use Discord as documentation host.

Let's list the problems:

  1. You need a discord account
  2. You depend on discord to stay up
  3. Discord's search function is the only thing known to man to be MORE useless than screaming into the void
  4. CHAT services are not DOCUMENTATION and NEVER WILL BE
  5. HOW DO YOU EVEN FIT A WIKI PAGE INTO A MESSAGE?
  6. WHAT VERSION DOES THIS MESSAGE EVEN RELATE TO??
  7. HOW DO YOU BACK IT UP 🤯

@arch I said "the same", but actually it's... kinda both? I actually use (almost*) the same profile picture everywhere. But categorized by private and brand. So my private stuff has just my simple blue dragon, while my "brand" stuff has the big STEFFOSPIELER badge. I say this still counts to "the same". And if you don't think that way, then... oh look, fire! :sd_rage_cut: 👨

*on Discord I have an animated version of my avatar, but still - it's the same basically.

So when a repository or project changes licenses, does the old license apply to all code in commits pre that change/commit, or does the new license apply retroactively as well? (I assume the former)

@arch I think the old license still applies for the old code, because it was written with that license in mind.
I actually watched a CCC video by @darisan (https://media.ccc.de/v/iger-2023-88-lizenzen-nicht-meine-baustelle-) a few weeks ago, where this was also mentioned. It's in German though, sorry D:

Oh boy, I'm so tired eventhough I didn't even do anything really. I just migrated 15 repositories from gitlab to my self hosted forgejo instance. :sd_sleep:

If I was going to setup my own instance, what's the recommended way to go about it? If I'm remembering right there were official Go and Python backends, the Go one being pretty early on?

@arch I run matrix (synapse) just with docker using the image matrixdotorg/synapse:latest.

I thought I'll gonna move all my git repos to my instance. And I decided to move my archived repos too.
I did bad stuff years ago (having gif's in git so I can just automatically deploy them on my raspberry pi) and I removed them with bfg, but still.. The size is still really big. WHY? HOW? The files aren't in the commit history anymore (shown in the web at least)....

@arch nice! I still need to find a good ci thingy that I can run on my host server because of how I host my discord bots :sd_sweat:

I host my discord bots as services (debian), so the ci has to go into the user folder, update the files, install the dependencies (python), change the owner (because gitlab-runner at the moment) and restart the service.

(On that note... if anyone has good recommendations on how I could improve my hosting on my server... I'm all ears!)

@arch oh nice! I never used GitHub Actions, so I only know the GitLab CI stuff - but since they do a lot of shit too now, I installed forgejo.

Though I actually use some ci things to deploy my changes (e.g. my discord bots) on my actual server. Did you find a guide on how to use forgejo actions? If yes, can you share it? :sd_sweatsmile:
