They serve a purpose and I don't mind so much. Makes Mo Ran's change more pronounced. A lot is made of it in the next book. But if he continues with the same in this life, once they reach that point in their relationship, I'll be upset.

Chinese fantasy in general sees consent in a way that feels uncomfortable to western readers so I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to younger readers at all. I try to keep that in mind when I read, so I don't get too hung up on the less savoury scenes.

I review the light novel vol. 1 of The Other World's Books Depend on the Bean Counter by Yatsuki Wakatsu. I've read the first three mangas and the novel doesn't much deepen the story, but it's still delightful.

I added a public service post script to this review: the kindle edition of this links to vol 3 of the manga adaptation on Amazon, so you can't buy the light novel there as an ebook. The glitch concerns many light novel series with manga adaptations there, not just this one. Other retailers are fine.
