It’s time to retired Bob. It makes me dislike him even more that he has no self awareness or accountability for his actions. I actually liked him a lot before this off-season
I like this as I think it actually is pretty unpopular. A lot of people are here on the merits of the fediverse and decentralization but I will be honest, I’m here because Apollo doesn’t work any more. I probably would have stayed at Reddit had they just worked out reasonable API pricing.
I enjoy the benefits of the fediverse now that I’m here but I’m not here for ideological reasons either
You can’t reach self-actualization without grinding through the rest of the hierarchy. And when you get there you realize the only thing that matters is if your life was a waste for you and what other people think or do didn’t matter
Looking for recommendations for a sleep app on iOS, I used one on android quite some time back but looking to get good suggestions from people here using some actively....
Honestly I find that the plain old health app does a fine job tracking sleep compared to AutoSleep but my wife uses that as gospel. I don’t like the discrepancy between the two personally and just go with what the health app says. I do like AutoSleep visualizations though.
I resisted the watch for a long time too and got my first in may and can’t believe I held out so long.
How hard is it to use a separate password manager and MFA app? I personally don’t keep any MFA codes in keychain because it’s not convenient to retrieve the passcode in most cases.

I’ve recently been trying to degoogle myself, and in doing so I’m going to need another email. I use my domain name with iCloud+ mail. I self hosted the domain for almost a decade and it’s just easier paying for hosting. I have done it on both O365 and Gmail but they have both nerfed the ability to use custom domains so iCloud it is.
I might have considered upgrading my 13 mini if an equivalent new model comes out. I want a smaller pocketable size, whether that’s a mini or a clamshell foldable
Let me preface by saying, I would love to hear counter points and am fully open to the fact that I could be wrong and totally out of touch. I just want to have some dialogue around something that’s been bothering me in the fediverse....
Doesn’t “normie” come from /b/? I don’t think I saw it used anywhere else until shitposting subs like /r/dankmemes started calling who don’t use memes correctly normies
Use Dig as a front end to retro arch and you never have to worry about it. Of course since android 12, setting up dig has had its own mess wrt scoped storage and such
Interesting perspective that I feel catches and summarizes my thoughts on the fediverse as a recent convert. Initially I wanted Lemmy to be a replacement for Reddit. Now that I have been here for a week, I’m ok as long as the content is good and the discussion is fresh.
Folks go to the local watering hole for socializing, but they are there first and foremost for the drink
Yeah not a very big fan of trying to get people to switch platforms especially if they are non-technical as if they A) have the mental bandwidth to change their whole workflow paradigm to appease someone else’s ideals, and B) even have a use case where Linux is an option
Anyone’s negative feelings for Windows and Office’s telemetry or Apple’s walled garden is justified but if I do know what Linux is, I didn’t decide to use Windows because I wanted to lick bill gates’ boots, I have a specific use case. And if I don’t know what it is, I probably need the OOB usability that Windows and OSX offer
For whatever reason it’s showing an error when I try to access one of the three threads. I assume it’s the updates from @ruud and he has done an amazing job. Lemmy.world has been performing amazing today
I’m using wefwef I suppose that could be it, it doesn’t have a problem open links to other instances but maybe since I’m on Lemmy.world it’s have issues recursively opening it or something
I don’t know how I didn’t think of this be for, but the Lemmy bean posting could be a psyop that reddit is trying to get people to return to them after switching to Lemmy
Why would shitposting on Lemmy, get people to switch back to Reddit, a site famous for shitposting?
Beanposting seems to be a pretty organic meme rising out of the fact that Lemmy is pretty new and people don’t really mind shitposts yet because there is such good content on Lemmy since the community hasn’t grown too large yet
Start following the main boards on your instance. Make the community yourself and start a topic about that subject on a general/main board and add a link to your community. The niche subs on Reddit didn’t come out of nowhere either.
That’s awesome. Do you have any games/software you use it to run or is it more of a display piece? I’ve been thinking of trying to get a bondi blue G3 and using a pi to proxy and render web traffic and loading it up with some classic Mac games. Just don’t have the space right now.
I love vintage computers like this though. Thanks for sharing
I don’t see many posts here about the N64 and it doesn’t look like there is an N64 community on lemmy.world It’s the console I have the most nostalgia for and I have over 130 games in my collection. I’m currently playing a ROM hack called SM64: Beyond the Cursed Mirror. It has some pretty challenging platforming but it...
N64 has a bunch of great games. Mario 64, Banjo, Smash, Mario Party, Turok, Shadows of the Empire. It’s just kind of an awkward system with a smaller library compared to PS1
I don’t really care if Reddit dies as long as we keep getting good content here on the fediverse. So far I have been totally surprised exactly how good this place has been as far as activity goes. I will miss the niche communities on Reddit so if we can siphon a bit more growth off this is excellent but the various Lemmy servers have enough activity to replace Reddit for general content for me
Disapproval has its place in deterring bad behavior. It’s not toxic to disagree with a person. If the only two choices are approval and indifference it promotes toxic behavior as there is nothing to suppress the toxic behavior.
Edit: I understand what you are getting at though and one thing I didn’t like is people using the downvote button as a disagree button. I only ever use it to downvote off-topic, spam, or toxic posts/comments; but I’ve been on Reddit and gotten massively downvoted because I’ve expressed an opinion counter to general consensus (hive mind)
@Ruud has been great and Lemmy.world has very transparent so I will throw some cash their way. The mastodon.world blog is transparent with costs and financials which I appreciate.
I would love to see if they have a roadmap of how they plan to address the current surge of traffic or if they plan to just wait it out with their current VPS.

I don’t understand how Lemmy.world developers managed to surpass both Lemmy.ml and Beehaw.org instances in user activity.
