@timrichards
🙃 “maybe paywalled” is so ironic.
I am much more irritated with the highly repetitive ads for #ABC content than those in #SBS - hence I record almost everything (except real time news) I watch on both (and fast forward through the ads on the SBS app).
@timrichards
I don’t use iview a lot as we mostly record what we want to watch so can’t remember. However, I notice that I can skip ads in most steaming aps if I run them on my iPad, connected to my tv via Apple TV box.
Rockliff’s judgement (going to the electorate to reestablish “stable majority Goverment”) is on full display. I guess he will soon be replaced as leader by a move to the religious Right.
Interestingly, the makeup of the house will now more closely represent what democracy was intended to deliver (though still too much of a ‘party system’).
There must be so many stories like this, across #Tasmania and #Australia. Women and men, young and old, that against all odds fought against genocide, and for what was rightly theirs. https://masto.ai/
The commonality of this thinking, that a #ChocolateFountain “…would rewrite the ‘must-see’ list for every visitor…”, with the Goverment’s proposed #Stadium is glaringly obvious.
The idea that if someone that is old and no longer wants to live while suffering from depression, pain or suffering from challenging ill health should have to deliberately fall in the hope of finishing their life and suffering, rather than doing so with support and generosity, perhaps in the presence of loved ones is #Inhumane. #VoluntaryAssistedDying
“…there was not yet enough data to say whether this would occur in the next year or in the coming century, but when it happens, the changes are irreversible on human timescales.
In the meantime, the direction of travel is undoubtedly in an alarming direction.
“We are moving towards it. That is kind of scary,” van Westen said. “We need to take climate change much more seriously.”
A beautiful Boxing Day morning in southern #Tasmania.
My heart goes out to those still under the weight of the other end of the #ClimateEmergency spectrum.
At winter solstice, the shortest day of the year in the northern hemisphere, the sun shines down this 5,000 year old passage and hits the back wall. The Neolithic chambered mound lies about 500m off the Brittany coast, on the small island of Gavr'inis.
These beautifully carved stone slabs support a 17-tonne stone slab acting as the roof of the tomb. At the time of its construction, c. 3500 B.C., the island was still connected with the mainland, and is today only accessible by boat.
I really dont know what to say about these two articles.
Almost certainly the most important, most frightening,and most depressing articles I have ever read - even considering (but not diminishing) the terrible stories of human depravity, aggression and suffering that leap from the headlines at this time.
I have just driven north from #Sydney on the M1, listening to “Into the bloodstream” by Archie Roach, and for at least 40km south of the Sparks Road exit, every single 110km/h sign has been altered to read “NO” - on both sides of the north bound lanes (maybe south bound as well?).
I wonder how long this has been the case.
Nearly 40 years ago I moved to #Australia from NZ and felt that I had gone backwards 20 years in terms of #Racism. (Not saying NZ was even near perfect) I thought we had progressed but the response to the #VoicetoParliament suggests it is not so. ☹️😞😕 #Yes23#Referendum2023#NSW
While people were evacuated last night from our favourite holiday spot (#ColesBay) on #Tasmania’s east coast due to fires, we (down south) received 26mm of rain in the last 24 hours and 49mm in the last 4 days. It is now 7.3oC and ‘feels like’ -0.3oC. 🤷🏼♂️
Sigh I was enjoying this cafe, then they jammed the door open so the cold breeze could get in. Great. Why do Melbourne cafes prefer their venues cold and drafty?
@timrichards I doubt it too. Almost nobody is thinking about #COVID these days but should be, looking at what is happening in the northern hemisphere right now.
