Interesting idea. At least it's more palatable than SBS On Demand with its clunky ad breaks.

I watched only ABC iview for a week. Here’s what I loved and hated.

(maybe paywalled) https://www.smh.com.au/culture/tv-and-radio/i-watched-nothing-but-abc-iview-for-a-week-here-s-what-i-learned-20240513-p5jd4k.html

@timrichards
🙃 “maybe paywalled” is so ironic.
I am much more irritated with the highly repetitive ads for content than those in - hence I record almost everything (except real time news) I watch on both (and fast forward through the ads on the SBS app).

@timrichards
I don’t use iview a lot as we mostly record what we want to watch so can’t remember. However, I notice that I can skip ads in most steaming aps if I run them on my iPad, connected to my tv via Apple TV box.

Rockliff’s judgement (going to the electorate to reestablish “stable majority Goverment”) is on full display. I guess he will soon be replaced as leader by a move to the religious Right.

Interestingly, the makeup of the house will now more closely represent what democracy was intended to deliver (though still too much of a ‘party system’).

    At winter solstice, the shortest day of the year in the northern hemisphere, the sun shines down this 5,000 year old passage and hits the back wall. The Neolithic chambered mound lies about 500m off the Brittany coast, on the small island of Gavr'inis.

    These beautifully carved stone slabs support a 17-tonne stone slab acting as the roof of the tomb. At the time of its construction, c. 3500 B.C., the island was still connected with the mainland, and is today only accessible by boat.

    TIL that dolphins are even more clever than I thought. I knew they had a great sonar system but 🐬 also have:
    • Eyes that allow them to see in two directions at once
    • Skin that secretes an antibacterial gel to ward off parasites and barnacles
    • Can get enough thrust to reach 30 mph
    • The ability to turn off half their brains at a time in order to get rest
    • Super immune systems that grant them protection from antibiotic-resistant bacteria, and…
    • The ability to sense very weak electric fields given off by hidden prey.
