I’m loving the typo on Stuart’s photo, “Neet Zero Minister”. 🤣
There’s nothing Neet about that idiot’s irreconcilable logic bomb. Dumbfudgery of the highest order from yet another here-today-gone-tomorrow junior minister. They offer them up like mice to a python. Somebody teach him about carbon budgets, ffs. 🤦🏻♂️
I really dont know what to say about these two articles.
Almost certainly the most important, most frightening, and most depressing articles I have ever read - even considering (but not diminishing) the terrible stories of human depravity, aggression and suffering that leap from the headlines at this time.
One antidote to climate paralysis and grief (in my experience) is doing small things. Making a donation to climate relief efforts or environmental justice campaigns. Writing a letter to the editor. Sharing your concern about climate change even when it's uncomfortable to speak up (almost always someone else will thank you for it though). We are (again in my experience) all less alone than we think.
In that spirit: i’ve been washing bed sheets, towels, hair a bit less frequently. Though time saved here is sadly more than taken up by not using tumble drier. It’s been something i’ve been thinking about a lot: the time and labour involved in #ClimateAction, and who exactly does this work. Eg as a middle aged mother i’ve decided to NOT do litter picks anymore - too much if that in my life already! So definitely into labour saving, feminist #ClimateInAction 😊
"unlike a light rail train, the shuttle won't be able to avoid getting stuck in traffic, so replacing a train with a shuttle isn't a one-to-one match" 🙃 if only somebody could do something about that #pdxTraffic! Like, if one of the many many car lanes to the airport could be a #busLane ¯_(ツ)_/¯ #Portland#TriMet#FuckTedWheeler#ClimateInaction
re: why #Portland can't have nice things: The trick is to make each "ride your bike in relatively car-free safety" event an expensive optional line-item requiring lots of money for "traffic control", but frame as unavoidable the $2M+/day we spend letting cars have free reign of the entire system for the other 362 days.
