They do. Or at least, here in Europe they do. Seems rather absurd there’d be a place where they don’t.

MS Edge browser wants really hard to stay (www.theverge.com)

Look at that shit! Before it was here are your two browsers choose! Now it’s…how about for the letter A? Suppose a website starts with an A, would you choose Edge to be your default browser?.. then you choose chrome or Firefox, and when you click on a link Edge Pops up with some shit like…Are you really sure you wanna use...

My solution was changing over to another operating system. I’ve had it to here with Microsoft, and with Proton on Steam being great as it is I really had no more excuses to stick to Windows.

I was already using programs with native Linux versions, such as Blender 3D, Krita, Gimp, Libre Office. Blender 3D even renders a bit faster in Linux.

The only reason why I didn’t switch over until Microsoft started forcing Windows 11 down everyone’s throats was because of my games library. Valve eliminated that problem, hallowed be Gabe.

I guess MS Office has special features that are now essential and integrated into office businesses. But personally I’ve been using Libre Office even on Windows already. But then again, I’m the average home user.

NASA May Have Just Stumbled Upon the Mother of All Space Navigation Solutions (www.autoevolution.com)

GIANT stands for Goddard Image Analysis and Navigation Tool, and it is basically an optical navigation software. That’s right, it uses images snapped by cameras, lidar, and other sensors to find the best way forward, kind of like we humans do when we use our eyes to see where we’re going....

Can confirm. I use DuckDuck Go and uBlock.

Thing is, searching with DDG takes time to get used to, as it doesn’t work the same way as Google. Google uses a lot of convenient algorithms that are also a double edged sword.

Yeah, I hate how crappy search now is.

It’ll show me a couple of videos, then shorts, then some kind of recommendation list. If I actually want to do a complete search for the thing, and only the thing, I’m looking for, I have to go to advanced options and specify I’m looking for videos. JUST videos.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Yes. The way the default search now works is that, when you search you get:

  • Three or four videos that are actually from your search.
  • Some recommended playlists.
  • The shorts tray that vaguely has some content related to your search.
  • Maybe two or three more videos from the actual search.
  • “People also watch” recommendations.
  • “Shorts for you” recommendations.

If you want to get just your search results, cutting away shorts, playlists, and the recommendations that take up the majority of the search page, you’ll have to open up the filters and click on “videos” on the cl tent type list. Then you actually get to see the search results.

Eh… Um… Know what? Probably should’ve guessed that there would be a uBlock Not-The-Origin if there is a uBlock Origin.

Yeah, I meant uBlock Origin.

Yes, water is wet.

Water is covering and saturating itself. Therefor water is wet.

Netflix Just Quietly Released the Most Thought-Provoking Sci-Fi Epic of the Year (www.inverse.com)

With direction by Toshio Kawaguchi (an accomplished journeyman in the industry if there ever was one, with credits that run from Akira to Studio Ghibli to Neon Genesis Evangelion), Pluto tells the story of a robot detective named Gesicht and the wave of murders of robots and humans that he’s tasked with investigating....

That robot is literally called “Face” in Dutch, only slightly wrong because the S should be a Z.

That can’t be an accident.

It starts by making your country better. More like in Europe here. It’s like the US actively goes out of its way to punish people who weren’t born with a silver spoon up their ass. The way the American systems work seem to me to be actively toxic to a regular person’s mental health.

So you have a country full of a large population of people getting mentally damaged from unnecessary and avoidable stress in life… And THEN there are also loads of guns.

“But most gun deaths are from people using pistols to commit suicide” gee I wonder if that doesn’t mean something, hmmm?

Cigarette-style climate warnings on food could cut meat consumption, study suggests (www.theguardian.com)

People are used to seeing stark warnings on tobacco products alerting them about the potentially deadly risks to health. Now a study suggests similar labelling on food could help them make wiser choices about not just their health, but the health of the planet....

The Doctor regenerating as a woman was never the problem. I think Jody had good Doctor energy, she could’ve been great, but the writing was utter shite.

And the terrible writing started in Capaldi’s run already. It simply progressively got worse…
